Root The Villain 5.4 upgrade thread

If you read his post on villian forum, he says that if you use the Villian updater, to update from 5.3 - 5.4, your files will be kept.

Having only rooted and flashed for the first time this weekend, please excuse the stupid questions, but:
Can I assume that most of the work has already been done in my first flash to 5.3, and to flash 5.4, I simply
a) put the update.zip on the root of the SD card
b) launch in recovery mode and
c) Choose to apply the update?

Ive just updated to 5.4 via their ota app.
And its really hammered my phone memory its gone from 140mb down to 73mb :(

I'm sticking with 5.3 for the meanwhile. I'm still dithering about whether to flash modaco 3.2, and then just wait for the official 2.1. Mostly because the battery just seems to drain. phone seems to need to be almost permanently on charge.

plus the 5.4 keeps freezing at the sim unlock screen. yes thats the main reason. who gives a toss about the battery lol.

Depends what your flashing, some roms requirte you to Wipe data and dalvik first, apart from that yes...

I did that and it wiped my HTC widgets, all of them.
I think I'm right in saying, that if you want 5.4, you have to flash the whole 5.4 rom to get it

I can't see what this offers over 5.3 other than the OTA updater, which I've applied already to 5.3. In fact people seem to be having various problems with it and the green camera tint has returned as well. I'm holding back with 5.3 - something really worthwhile will have to be added for me to update in the near future.

Hmm... I might not do it then.. I can't find any info on exactly what the theme they refer to looks like, and I really like how 5.3 looks.

I don't know when this started happening... but all of a sudden, SU Requests are not coming up properly... all I get is a black screen that eventually says "Activity SU Request (in application Superuser Permissions) is not responding. I can Force Close and Wait... if I hit Wait, nothing happens.
*EDIT* Never mind, I was a ****** and had USB debugging turned off. Sorry.

wow, the forum censored re...****?

Well, I have spent the afternoon with 5.4 and I'm not so sure I like the blue theme ... and the android smileys have gone!

I have a Nandroid back-up of 5.2 from lunchtime, and I have to say, I'm considering going back to it ... I ran it over the whole weekend, and it was a great experience.

For the record, I flashed over 5.2 to 5.3 then 5.4 without a wipe and as far as I can tell, everything worked as it should.

Its funny how I agonised for so long about rooting my Hero, and now within a few days, I'm flashing it left, right and centre ...

I get that as well, how did you turn it back on?
