Root The Villain 5.4 upgrade thread

Not many people like the theme. They are brining out OTA updates (see main thread over @ XDA) and soon you can pick what theme to flash from the OTA. New themes wll come out soon.

But I'm still on 5.3 for the moment... 5.4 seems some what rushed and unpolished...
 
If we're having a love in, count me in. I'm on Orange too, tried the same as Jaffa has, had 4 goes at it and still no joy.
GPS.......I'm on the updated radio and still won't work indoors, outdoors, even at the top of a very big hill !!!!

I have checked the internet settings and they match Orange UK APN and Network Settings | Android UK News, Reviews and Allsorts wifi works fine, just the 3g seems to be dead

Put 5.4 on last night and internet all ok with me (also on Orange) New to this ROM lark, so how easy is the radio update to get GPS working again?
 
I'm still using 5.3. I still can't get mms to work, despite trying the fix numerous times. I'm also having the issue where gps won't work. I have updated to the latest radio.

Very frustrating.

I'm sticking with 5.3 for now. I'm waiting on a definitive answer on this forum from a poster who has successfully fixed MMS and GPS on Orange before i fiddle further.

Surely somebody has it all fixed?
 
After flashing villain5.3, couldn't get the GPS to work at all.
I was using the power widget that comes with 2.1 to turn on the GPS.
I noticed the GPS icon wasn't just going on and off as it usually does ( the green beams flashing), but was going faint and flickering very fast.

I've since removed that power widget and am now using the old single ones for wifi/bluetooth/GPS

So far so good, now got a GPS signal




Now just gotta sort out this friggin MMS on Orange !!!!!

its easy - just another flash called update.zip really simple

I have rolled back to 5.3 and then back to the standard 1.5 and still no internet. so I am wondering if its my phone or Orange.

I am going to try an older radio - but its looking like my 3g is borked :(

not sure whats going on :(
 
Something is not right.
I updated my radio yesterday and that sorted out my gps,come to try it today and its not working.
Removed the 2.1 gps widget but still no gps ?.

Having spoken to Orange - it turns out there is a transmitter down exactly where I am - 2G GPRS works. Additionally at my house. the transmitter is also down (but coming back online this week) I blinking restored back when I didnt need to. GRRRRR - lesson learned - Orange can be poo.

Thanks people - and now as if by magic - its working again :)

on another note - anyone worked out how to change the lock screen ? I dont like the clock OR the picture and changing the lock screen settings doesnt work...
 
The GPS bug seems to be an old one, basically you need to have had the GPS toggled to On when you switch off the phone. If it was set to off when you started the phone then it won't work until you restart the phone with it set to On.

Seems to have worked for me the one time I tried that.
 
Just flashed to 5.4 and very nice at the moment couple of points.

I ran the MMS script and sent a message to a friend with 5.3 - he however does not receive the pic - is it still a problem on my end or his?

When entering a birthdate for a contact - after you select the month and press ''done'', it displays the month before e.g. If i select 05 for May, after I i select Done - it sets the date as April (04) - so to get the correct month I have to select one month ahead.

Additionally I cannot seem to change my lock screen picture from the purple cubes to any of the pre-installed wallpapers on the phone - anyone else having that problem?

I hope the above feedback provides useful - aside from those issues, I am quite happily enjoying the ROM (aside from the speed issues compared to 1.5 but thats expected). :)

Thanks for that - I had the same problem, thought I was going mad or something):)
 
Ive put the sense rom on my phone but have a few glitches. Could any of you kind people let me know if the villain rom has any of the following?

1) Long texts being sent seperately
2) im not getting a voicemail notification
3) when adding a word to dictionary the buttons dont say add, they say date(most recent)
4) GPS connection temperamental, requires restarting the phone a couple of times before it will get a fix
5) Camera having the yellow/green hint
6) my trackball isnt lighting up when i have an email. I get the little green light flashing next to the speaker instead

Just trying to work out if i should leave the phone as it is, try a different rom or if these issues are standard on all 2.1 roms at the moment.

I tried this tonight on the way home, and where I had an "animated" GPS icon before (yesterday), I suddenly had a "solid" GPS icon. On a roll, I tried turn-by-turn navigation with absolutely no problems.

It worked for me. I don't need sat-nav, so its a workaround I can easily use should I need it.

MMS - Come on somebody, post a sure-fire way of nailing this annoying issue!
