A quick update ...
I was changing around my set up last night with new wallpaper, icons etc.
I was going to add a clock widget called 'Android Clock' which used to have a few different clock choices - but when I selected it, the new clock from the zip I flashed appeared!
So, turns out the new apk replaced that one, instead of the one by the same name (deskclock). Thanks!

Yup, its the right clock. It just replaced a different one than I expected
