I've been thinking about trying to take a stab at making a theme or something of the sort and I dont want to use UOT. I like learning it the first time. Just from trying to install Arch linux I quickly learned that I nothing about computers LOL. I've been using Debian based linux for a while and I heard that Ubuntu is a good platform for Android. But right now Ubuntu is on my Shyt list lol.

So if any of you could guide me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated :)

Oh and right now I'm currently running Arch linux and Mint

debian can be used and is what ubuntu is built on top of. ;)

I used kubuntu mainly because thats what all the guide posted are for to set the build environment up, personally I hate ubuntu, worse distro I ever used, but its about the best 'n00b friendly' distro out.

Why I use nix over windows??? Because it just makes sense to dev a nix based os in a nix environment. ;) And because if you are doing more than just themes, cooking, or modding apks a vm or cgywin just wont cut it for compiling a full OS unless you are patient enough to wait HOURS for it to complete. I compile CM7/9 in 20 - 30 minutes in a installed environment (Win7/Kubuntu).

I knew ubuntu was debian but I just dont like the way unity looks and works. I started out with Crunchbang which is by no means for noobs but wasn't the most unstable distro. I'm pretty sure I could stick with linux mint seeing how they are pretty much alike. I will also check out kubuntu. Thanks bud

U can get rid of unity n use a diff window manager ;) which is basically what kubuntu does sort, it uses KDE instead of gnome.

For themes, I use either or (Win/(K)Ubuntu), themeing is easy and Windows can handle it, for ROM dev definitely an Ubuntu flavor for me, faster and easier than Windows.

agreed 100% i just hated switching hdd's mid project because i dont like the performance of virtual machines rather have the actual OS, but im just more comfy with windows... only use ubuntu when really needed lol

once you get use to nix you wont want to use windows no more lol. I love Win7, but only time I boot into it now is when its a windows only prog I need to run, need to use photoshop or work on a website so I can use photoshop and cuteftp pro, and like last week when I need to pump out a VB program for a friends homework lol.

you can definately fully theme a rom from windows..but if you get heavy into editing code or compiling you might want to think about dual booting ubuntu or another linux based os
