Thermal paste.

Thinking about applying some arctic mx2 to the processor...don't know if that is a good or bad idea though....

bad idea... it's not what the paste was designed for... it is a heat conductive paste. that being said it will be a conduit between your processor and a cooling block but it is useless without a cooling block... besides, I don't know about you but it is usually my battery that heats up before my processor...

Still new to thermal paste. Thanks for the clarification. I have some lying around from my computer, so it struck an idea

You work on computers and don't understand how thermal paste works?

If I wanted a cynical answer I would have asked for one. To answer your question, yes I work on computers. I do understand how it works, but at the same time, I'm also new to using thermal paste, and I don't know how it would react with a cellphone's components. I was contemplating attaching a heatsink to the processor with thermal paste. I then determined it to be too much work and not enough space. If you have nothing productive to bring to a conversation, don't say anything.

Actually he had a valid point, if you work on computers use of thermal paste should have been one of the first things you learned about as you can not build a computer w/o it, replace the cpu w/o it, or repair/replace the heatsinks for the cpu or gpu w/o it. ;)

And to answer your question, no dont use it on your phone. How they handle heat/cooler etc is done completely different than a computer. ;)

It wasnt productive or a good point. His/her entire post was questioning my knowledge in computers, not replying to the original question posted over a month ago. Smartmanvartan already said that it was a bad idea, and i acknowledged that. Like he , and you, said already, its not intended for application on cell phone processors. I was merely throwing out an idea, since i had left-over thermal paste from my recent fix.

Edit: and its not necessarily a bad idea if the paste is non corrosive to, or non reactive with the chip, and if i had a cooling block. My phone heats up in the area around my camera, and where the processor is, rather than my battery. To me, that means the heat isnt transferring out of my processor as well as i would like. I also recognize the possibility of heat absorbant pads, or something like that. Thank you for your input though in your second paragraph. If a mod could come along, I would like this thread to be closed please. input is had, and the thread is old.
