Root Things I've Learned (The Hard Way)

Lurker
This is a post detailing what I learned the hard way. Or better yet, the things they don't really tell you in the main tuts.

  1. ClockworkMod Recovery Sucks IMHO and no disrespect to the devs, I just cant stand it.
  2. When you go to install a 2.3 ROM like aospCM7 from the stock rom, make sure to wipe everything before and after install.
  3. CWM Recovery selection button is the camera button
  4. ALWAYS NAND!
  5. ALWAY NEVER NOT NAND!
  6. Titanium backup is great, use it often to save your data usage if you dont have wifi
  7. If you can't flash the recovery from your computer, use a terminal emu. It has to be done after root and can be done with the same command lines
Thats all I can think of for now.

#2 why would you want to wipe everything after you just installed a ROM ????

With xionia recovery, there are increasing reports of improper wipes on the Optimus V, but multiple wipes seems to help. The xionia recovery is based on the Optimus S which has a slightly different partition table than the Optimus V. The versions of CWM that were compiled for the Optimus V don't seem to have that issue. You just have to be sure the version of CWM is the correct one.

Would you still want to wipe EVERYTHING after installing a ROM, or just cache partition and Dalvik cache? If you wipe EVERYTHING then you will loose all the data you just installed. That was what I was tying to ask in the first post. Sorry that I was not as clear as I should have been.

Yeah, I've also seen mentioned to wipe the Dalvik cache after flashing but before rebooting into new ROM.
