i dont use the set cpu widget there have some threads saying the widget decreases battery life.

thanks, I will try that as I am on this battery life quest lately
I used to be all about speed and raw power. Now I just want it to run very smooth or fluid and some decent battery life. And of course having the best themed setup
I keep saying to myself "I will keep this setup for awhile" then I have a few too many at the bar and wake up next to a new rom

I am running chevy's 1.0 LV (that comes with SS 4.6). What temperature is generally considered too much? I want to set a rule that if a temp exceeds XX

I dont like mine ever getting above 120F and as a general rule I like to keep it under 100F ... this is just my preference
115F seems to be normal for my phone if I am streaming.

I have hit 168F before and it didnt melt tho

i think you are not supposed to get above 140 degrees f think your phone will reboot 150 (or at least its supposed to). i dont like mine to get to 120 because the higher the temps the quicker your battery will drain.

I freaked ... it was clocked at 1.2 running Nav and streaming pandora while charging and docked in the sun on a hot day. I have sinced learned from this mistake and moved my dock as high up the winshield as I can and have SetCpu set to 600mhz while chargeing.

lol, See now you are a pro. Thats the sort of real useful knowledge you can't obtain from a one click root program. Nitty Gritty stuff, now you can walk forward without fear cuz you just experienced the worst it can be

but yes, sure, it helps to have the working knowledge now.. BUT that would not have come if it were not for 1 click root app.

In SetCPU I set a condition that if it hits like 115 it scales back to 900mhz to try to keep it cool. I had my phone reboot yesterday in the hot sun of my car while talking via BT and when I rebooted, it was 127, so after reading this, I made that condition.

it would be kind of cool if SetCPU could make conditions like - "if on the phone do xyz" - as who needs 1.1ghz when on the phone. So instead, I will use a temp as my condition to scale back mhz to try to control heatnand possible reboots.

after messing with the widget a bit, I would say it does not for me. I wonder if the people that report this are trying to get the widget to update to much/quick. I picked something conservative - 1min IIRC - and it seems fine 0 battery drain. In fact, I feel like with SetCPU scaling back to 250, it saves battery. Last night just sitting overnight, I lost 10% only. which is normal as I use Tasker - possibly 1 of the coolest apps ever - to shut off BT, Sync, etc. so, if the widget was a drain, I would expect more.

same here... the app set cpu does indeed save battery life depending on the rom you run. its the screen widget and profiles that some have reported being an extra drain on battery life. i chose to run bb v0.4. this rom will idle your kernal at minimum mhz and ramp up your kernal on demand. simply stunning 4.6 does this as well.

until now, never spent any time in the Root area of the forum, where should I watch for this as I have 3 final root goals to complete once I calm down

1. a 2.2 ROM
2. over clock ability (I think I need a ROM and SetCPU?)

3. baseband switch as mine has been crap ever since we went to 2.1 - but since I think this is what screwed me before, I think, I am leery to try it again and maybe a 2.2 ROM will address that.

so, I would be looking for the best advice to look at to do those 2 final things I started this whole process for.

If you don't have paid Rom Manager, grab it. Then grab the Sapphire rom from the CVPS section. You won't need SetCPU, as that rom has all it's functions except the widget with temp monitor built into settings>>Gem. It's FRG01B, with a 1.2 kernel. For baseband update, go into Bugless Beast section of Rom Manager. Pete has a 1-click update for baseband. The one in CM section is a 2-step update. I noticed better battery life with the latest baseband, as well as more bars.
