Root Think I Finally Bricked It...

I posted my problem on the CM4DX thread an got no help, so I gotta start a new thread. I tried to flash CM7 onto my X last night and when I rebooted the phone just sat there with the motorola logo on it. I tried restarting and a hard reset and neither worked. I left it plugged in all night thinking it might eventually boot or something. But it didnt. Now the bootloader says that the battery is low and it cant be programmed. No the motorola logo wont even show up unless its plugged into an outlet, but it never charges. And when plugged into the computer the green notification light turns on, but still only the bootloader shows up. I don't know whats wrong with it, but all I know is i cant sbf and to me that means my phone is done for. I guess the battery is dead? Hell, I need help!

Charge your battery. Either find someone with an X and do it, or go to a Verizon store. You need to charge your battery before it will flash the SBF.

Well it wont charge plugged into an outlet because I left it plugged in for 8 hours last night. And it wont on a computer either. The green light turns on, which supposedly means the battery is really low, and its supposed to turn off when it gets enough power to turn the phone back on, but i left it plugged in for 5 hours this morning and its still on. Do I need to buy a new battery? I dont know anyone with an X...

It should be fixable once it is charged. I had a similar problem when flashing a ROM and bricked my phone while the battery was low. If you know someone that has the same phone and can charge your battery, try that first. If not, there is a way to rig up a usb cable to your phone and trick it into charging. Here is tutorial I found:

1. Take your cable and cut off one of the ends, leaving a standard USB plug at the opposite end to plug into your computer.

2. Now you need to strip about and inch of the wire off until you get to the core where you should see 4 colored wires (red, black, white, and green). The colors don't really matter and they may vary, just as long as you can see a red wire and a black wire.

3. Strip off about a quarter inch of the rubber sleeving on the red and black cables, exposing the actual metal wire.

4. Twist the metal strands of each of the wires a couple of times so that all of the wires from the black cable are together and all of the wires from the red cable are together. This is just to make sure that you don't create a short circuit.

5. Here's where it gets a little tricky. You are going to use this cable to make the phone think the battery is fully charged, when in fact you will just be powering the phone using the power from the USB port. Pull out the battery on your phone and find the 4 exposed metal slots (the battery terminals).

6. Each of the far terminals should be labeled with a plus (+) or a minus (-). What you need to do is put exposed leads on the red wire up to the positive terminal and the leads of the black wire up to the negative terminal.

I took my phone into Verizon and told them I needed my battery charged up so I could fix my phone. They didn't ask any questions and sales lady took my battery and charged it up in her phone. Had to wait around bored out of my mind, but let the battery charge up enough for me to go back home and SBF the phone and get back to stock and running.

It won't charge at bootscreen or in the bootloader. You need to somehow get this battery charged.

should I take just the battery so they cant try to look at the phone and know ive been messing with it? I know they cant do anything to me, I just dont want to deal with it.

You could always take just the battery in and say that your battery got discharged and you need it to be charged up since you don't have a charger with you and you don't want to have to buy another one.

Would you recommend trying the verizon option first? I feel like I could accidently ruin the battery that way?

The easiest, least-hassle way is to take it to Verizon. Just say you need your battery charged and have a seat for an hour or come back later.

Yeah, go to the store. USB tampering thing is an absolute last resort.

They wouldnt charge it for me, said there was no way they could? Even though Im pretty sure 90% of verizon employees have an X, or at least used to.

so when your phone is off and you plug it into the wall it cuts back on?? strange

Yeah, as soon as its plugged into a wall charger it turns back on immediately, but not when plugged into a computer...

WTF?! Really?

and you say you don't know anyone with a X to charge it for ya?

May have to revert to plan C.

VS if he was flashing a file when his battery died then yes, it won't charge at all. It will continue to go into the bootloader because that's the last state the phone was in when the battery died.

But as everyone else said, just take it to a Verizon store and have them charge it. That's the hassle free way to do it, boring way, but hassle free. This is why I would also recommend people buy TBH's factory cable. For when that "Now what?" moment arises.

No I don't, I used to kinda know two people that had one, but no way to contact them. Im not sure if I should go ahead with the usb method or try another verizon store..

The local store here charged my friends up before. You got some pricks working at yours a guess? Try a different one if you can I guess..

maybe for him, cause when mine died in the bootloader state (about 2 weeks ago because i wanted to see if i could flash with 20% battery life, that answer is no lol)
it died so i moved it to the wall charger, and sure enough it started to charge, when i cut it back on it booted to the bootloader.

maybe i had an anomily...

I'm only guessing here but I would say that's possible. I know a few times when I would have to plug my phone it it would turn on as soon as I plugged it in. Other times it wouldn't turn on and go into charge mode. The DX is a VERY finicky phone.....lol
