Thinking about the S3 is it Better than the iPhone 4S

Have you just happened to check the first two pages of this forum? See how many times BATTERY is brought up in the subject.
Even better, put "BATTERY" in the search box for this forum and see how many complaints there are for this month alone.

This is like buying a new car, loading it with bricks, not pumping the tires up and wondering why it's performing badly or breaking. It's a support forum, for support on the phone. The battery life is amazing, just learn how to use it properly. Power saving, turn mobile data off, buy ad free apps, do a shutdown every day or two. I've personally seen my battery life only ever get better the longer i've had the phone.
I've yet to see a smartphone (like this) be able to produce such amazing quality and performance and still have a good battery.
I can't count the amount of times my friends with iPhones say "Sorry my phones about to die" or "i'm low on battery". Samsung have created the best smartphone the worlds seen to date IMO. And touch
I am not saying you are totally wrong, but I would think that one shouldn't have to worry about power saving modes or otherwise just to get a full day's charge.
For people that are on the go all day long with the phone in their pocket, they need to stay on top of their emails and messages. All these power saving apps (including JuiceDefender) shut down WiFi and Radio signals to conserve power, but in doing so, inhibit the functions that are heavily relied on.
If there were just a few complaints about the SG3 battery, I wouldn't be worried. However, this board is littered with posts from angry members who are claiming that they are doing whatever they can to conserve battery power, yet it's tough to get through 8 hours.
I am truly happy to hear there are some of you with no issues. I do agree that it's hard to have a device like this and expect great battery life. Maybe coming off of the iPhone I am more shocked by the difference.

There will always be opposing views on battery longevity as we all use our phones for different things.
I don't have any problem with battery life as i only use mine to surf the internet at work and for the odd phone call and sending a few text messages.
It is currently showing 88% and the last time I charged it was last night. (it reached full charge at approximately 20:00)
When i have used it to play games it is noticeable how fast the battery drains but lets be honest it is not a games console so why are we surprised.
If the phone came with the added bulk of a much higher capacity battery and was much thicker than it currently is would the people complaining here be saying the phone is way too thick and is ugly in comparison to other smart phones?

I came from the 4s and have no regrets whatsoever... One thing I have learnt is that some people talk complete BS about their battery... It's ok, but does not last as long as my iPhone did, that said I can and do far more with my S3 than I ever thought possible!!! Take a look at the apple website, ios6 in my humble opinion is basically ICS, all the new stuff we have been able to do since the S3 graced our shores.
I would definitely make the switch. In order to improve my time with the new device and the battery I have got myself an extended battery from mugen batteries in Hong Kong and cannot say enough about it, I get 2-3 days usage and that's heavy usage! I have set all haptic feedback off, s-voice to not listen as I didn't realise that constantly uses a small amount of battery, screen set to standard, wi-fi always on, all apps and email accounts I check myself as when I need to again saving battery... I have my wireless network saved and some mates networks and I've now set it not to scan therefore saving more battery...
Verdict...I love it!!!!
The above is just what I have done so please don't give me a torrent of abuse if I have got something wrong
oh talking of torrents you can also download them direct to your device which a group of us do to share videos, can't ever see that happening on an apple device!

That's simple. Does anyone really think Apple is going to change anything? Sure, they'll have a couple hardware upgrades and some software "enhancements" that they will call revolutionary. However, they are ditching Google Maps and Youtube, they are still going to (always) be a closed environment with stupid icon arrangements, you won't be able to use widgets or live wallpaper. You won't have a removable battery, no SD slot and no choice of manufacturer. You may have a choice of black or black (OK, maybe white). You won't be allowed to use third party apps.
The list goes on and on. Nothing will really change. If the OP is tired of that walled garden environment, what's the use of waiting for Wednesday?

Apple will be scared of loosing the customers that like "The iPhone look" so I don't see them changing much really.

I made the switch, S3 runs circles around the iPhone. With that said, I still use my iPad and enjoy it. With the S3 I find myself using the phone more for email, FB, and searching web.
I'd check out some YouTube videos that compare the two. Programs like Tasker, Widgets on screen, ROM choices, choice of Brands and removable SD cards. Like others, I will never buy an iPhone again.

ummmmm, because today is FRIDAY and we're talking about next WEDNESDAY. And I am pretty sure that there will still be GS3s available next Wednesday. Thursday too. So I guess I don't see how someone could be in such a rush to buy a phone that they would rather ASSUME that the new iPhone will be more of the same (which incidentally I believe too) versus just waiting to confirm that before they jump on a GS3.
Maybe I don't obsess about phones as much as others to the point that I must have it TODAY not tomorrow.....especially when the OP dude is talking about shelling out 450 bucks or whatever for a GS3.....just wait, jeez.
And yet the press will be acting as if a 4 inch screen and LTE functionality is new ground that has been broken first by Apple and is almost the second coming of the messiah......just you wait.......

Now you've blown it you have introduced some facts to the debate, the haters wont like that.
This has all been said, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.
I have both an SG3 and an iPhone 4s, and the SG3 is the first android phone that has convinced me to sell my iPhone. I tried many previous high-end android devices, and while I liked some of them a lot, and learned a ton about getting the most from android while using them, none of them were good enough, and I always went back to my iPhone. However, I would not be saying this if I was using my SG3 as configured straight out of the box. I am not rooted, but I have certainly changed things to get this phone running smoothly, with great battery life too. I turned off S-Voice launch from home button, tuned off all animations, and loaded Nova Launcher. Of course I've also disabled some apps, installed others, etc. It's no surprise to me if users who aren't into tinkering with settings, apps, etc prefer the iPhone, but boy was I bored with it. I guess if a phone is just supposed to work, and not be fun to play with (and I don't mean games), then iPhone makes a great choice.
Do I ever miss my iPhone? Yes. I love the camera, and the camera on the SG3 is close, but still not as good. Sometimes I miss the sturdy feel, and small size of my iPhone, but I don't miss the tiny screen. I can't believe the the iPhone 5 is only getting a 4" screen!
I think if I was on the fence about which way to go I would wait until the iPhone announcement just to see... but then don't hesitate to go for the SG3. I love mine!

I came from the Iphone 4 (had the every previous Iphone before the 4). I made the jump to Android because I to was bored with IOS. I picked up the HTC Evo 4G and that was it for me, I was a Android guy lock, stock and barrel.
Android is just so much more fun to use. Much more customizable and allows you to do things Apple would never allow you to do. When NJRondo made the comment about swapping out batteries I had to laugh because when I had my Iphone and it was low on power that was it for me, I would have to shut everything down. Now I can simply swap batteries, no biggie. If I need more memory, no biggie just swap in a bigger SD card, instead of figuring out which apps to delete.
As for the SIII, It's the best phone out there currently. Apple may have some tricks up it sleeves still with the Iphone 5 but I doubt any Android owner is going to be blown away with these tricks. I remember when Apple unveiled the drop down menu on IOS 5 and I just rolled my eyes.
Take it from another ex-Iphone user and don't believe the hype Apple is going to be saturating everyone with next week. I know all the big tech sites and the major media networks will be in an orgy of Apple fanboyism pointing out all the bells and whistles Apple will unveil and marvel at. Simply take out your SIII and say "well my phone can do that to, big deal!"

. But yeah battery life is still the holy grail of phone makers. You can get great battery life out of your SIII, just disable a couple of things like GPS or bluetooth or some things running in the background. Also there is a battery saver toggle on the SIII that disables some stuff running in the background automatcally. I consider myself a "poweruser" and I really haven't had any issues with my SIII, battery-life wise. Still get a full day of use from it.
Also if you still need more juice there are extended batteries out there you can purchase. Granted it will make your SIII a bit chunkier but it's still better than those extended battery cases for the Iphone.
Here's the thing, if you're an Iphone user and is fully integrated into their ecosystem, bought a bunch of apps, bought a lot of accessories, you're probably going to stay with the Iphone.
But if this rumor that Apple has changed the sync jack to a smaller version is true (which will make things like 3rd party audio docks they've bought obsolete), then you may see some Iphone owners jump ship to Android.

The amount of effort Samsung put into the software for S3 and he fact how Jelly Bean smooths things out (try one of the DLI leaks and see for yourself) will be very difficult to beat by Apple. They will, of course, blab about how great it, just the way they blabbed about 3G, when every sing phone had had it for years when they introduced it in iPhone 3G, how they blabbed about MMS when everyone had had it for years too, they will be blabbing about their 'revolutionary' features this time.
And you know what? People will believe them. Because they are smooth talkers, liars and know how to advertise. Plus, people have no clue about what is available, so if Apple say it is something completely new, when it is not, they will believe as they know no better. That is the Apple audience, people who know no better, because they have never tried (apart from a 1% of those who just choose it for its simplicity).

Thanks ! Looks easy enough. I will pick up a GS3 this week. Have to buy it full retail though, not ready for upgrade with AT&T. $550.00 before tax is steep. Hope it's worth it.
