Root Third Wave

ok, so i loaded this rom last night. my first rom actually.

and besides the fact that pandora sounds like rubbish.... i dont really see how it's any different from 2.1. there are a few new options i guess. i know i'm a noob and all, but what am i missing?

i mean, my quadrant scores are double.. but i'm not really sure what that all means either.

is there a fix for the pandora/streaming issue? if not, i'm going back to stock.

Stagefright fix will fix the audio.

That's true, however it is a tradeoff because it breaks audio on Hulu. It comes down to whether you want good AAC audio or be able to watch Hulu. Me, I'd rather have the audio, I don't watch hulu much.
 
Froyo isn't an earth shattering update. Its more like a refinement of Android and a speed up in certain areas (mainly cpu with running java apps).

thanks for the honesty. i was under the impression it was going to change my life or something. :)

are there any cool apps or differnt things i can do now that i have 2.2 and the flash you included?

i see what people are saying about the issues with hulu when you have the pandora fix. is there a zip file that will undo the stagefright fix so i go back and forth and use hulu?

I believe I may have made a reversion patch for someone on IRC. Let me check.

Cool apps that are froyo only:

The new voice search
bt voice dial (that works right)
chrome to phone
flash


Im sure there are more.
 
sorry for the noob question but how do you install the stagefright.zip patch? Also if I do this should I uninstall the flash version that came with wave 3 and install the flash from the market?

Easiest way to install is to use ROM manager.

Select "Install ROM from SDCARD"
Just point to stagefright.zip on your sdcard.
Backup your existing ROM (just in case)
Then press OK.

It will then reboot.. backup.. install the patch. The patch installs very quickly.

In regards to the flash. I do not believe stagefright has anything related to flash. Its a fix for the sound if I am not mistaken.

The flash Adrynalyne included in the sw_files/hulu_install folder on the sdcard is the same as the one from the market.

I think that was me. With stagefright, the audio lags significantly behind the video and is very slow. Not sure why.
 
ooof...so nervous...installing via rom manager now....my first rom since coming from Moto droid and running Petes Bugless Beast/CM6...followed all instructions exactly...looking forward to setting up my phone again...these updates take long on the inc!

EDIT: Also, I'd like to introduce myself! adrynalyne, thanks for everything...I am sure I will be making a donation soon. You guys can call me Gonzo :) I have some pretty hefty experience with flashing from the D1 and hopefully I can help others taking the plunge into the AWESOME world of rooting/flashing!
 
Got stagefright installed - good improvement in audio quality! Fortunately I wasn't a hulu user...

Sooo I was reading the thread about poor battery life on 2.2 and it possibly being due to poor idling of the CPU. I want to try one of the hydra kernels but I have never updated a kernel before. Can I install them directly over Adrynalyn's Wave 3 ROM without having to do a complete wipe? How stable are they?
 
welp reinstallin apps with titanium what a pain the assshh hahaha i paid for premium but did not receive a code so market links did not backiup...piss

Any tips on restoring market links? haha orrr am I just going to have to reinstall each one now from market over existing apps?

Stability is a wash. 1ghz really is the top end for this phone and not many can go much further past that.

However, you can try each of them without wiping and find what works best.

I installed SSUV, but setcpu doesnt seem to get along with it...

can anyone comment?

should I bother with that one or just go back to my nandroid from before I flashed the kernel.

As far as features, I agree, but the under the hood changes are big stuff. Dalvik layer is no longer a resource hog or contraint to performance. That alone is big, but to a general user... I can see the "so what" factor kick in.

added: Look at me talking tech talk when I am too shy to update. Fraud!!

More a case of too lazy to set everything up again, but still.... Fraud!!
 
Some more updates...So maps.apk is force closing if I open it from another app like say...the market...although i think I got it working if i just open normally.

Another note is battery life...I seem to be losing about 15% an hour...which is worse than my my usual loss of 10% an hour. Anyone recommend a different kernel than stock? Is anyone else experience some battery problems? It may be because I am playing with the thing more...hence the screen is on more but I usually play music in the morning and it drops 10 percent
