Help This wifi issue

Getting a sgs2 in the next week or so...quick question for current owners how bad is the wifi signal? Does everyone experience it?

I use wifi a lot and don't get good 3g signal at home so important for me.

I've heard people talk about a Samsung update...did this help?

Is it a Samsung issue or gingerbread issue?

Appreciate your comments. ...

My wifi is fine. I've seen a couple of reports of people getting very poor signals but no problem here.

Got mine from phones 4 u on release date. And wifi is very poor. Not done the update yet, to be honest I am not very familiar with kies so I am waiting for an over the air update.
Although signal appears poor, my phone connects most of the time and as long as there is a signal i don't think the speed slows down.
I would like a fix for this though.

I done the new firmware update from P4U. as far as i can see nothing has changed.. I used Kies by the way i did have problems updating cause i didnt turn my virus protection off, once i did it was plain sailing..

I've noticed it tends to report the signal level as being low even though it can connect fine + when i'm sitting next to my wireless N router it only connects at 61mbps, i dont need it to connect at the full 300mbps (or is it 500? i forget) but it would be nice to see -something- use the wireless N, all my other gadgets are wireless b/g.

Got my phone delivered from Phones4u on launch day and have notice very poor wifi connection as well. Using speedtest in the same location as old iphone the iphone gets 7.5Mbps (typical max for my line) and the SII gets 1.7Mbps consistently. It occasionally jumps to 4Mbps. This is all measured about 8 feet from router. Wifi signal is nowhere near as good as iphone 3GS. Otherwise a brilliant phone. Updated to latest firmware the other day without improvement.

Got my S2 from phones4u last weekend. On contract to Orange
Love the phone, but afraid to say not only is my wifi conection weak, but after using wifi and then doing something else on the phone eg make a call / send a text / play angry birds etc etc when i try to conect to the wifi again it wont (at all) i have to turn the phone off and on again for it to work, extreemly disapointed with that, but the rest of the phone works fine, love the camera though.

Have you updated yours?
I also got mine from phones4u and on orange but mines on the latest firmware, i dont have the same wifi issue that you report.
Mine sometimes fails to connect to public wifi routers due to the signal strength but i have no issues with my home wifi.

i'm on O2 and haven't got any issues with wifi. doesn't ever seem to get too low regards signal. Was one of the things i considered before getting the phone as i had heard rumours of wifi issues but so far i've been nothing but impressed with it. :)

Well i haven't done any firmware upgrades as i didn't think it would need to yet ? It's only a week old, but i can tell you also i was sat in a Restaurant with my wife today and her Iphone (orange) had full coverage, but my S2 (orange) was struggling for signal, starting to wonder if i made a bad choice ?

I got mine in Phones4u a week ago and I hadn't actually noticed any issue with the Wifi til today when I was sitting beside my friend who had a Desire HD and was getting full bars while I only had 2 bars wifi.

How do you know if you have the latest Firmware? And how do you get the update?

Set up kies on comp, then connect through usb,, it will tell u when u connect if u have the latest firmware

I needed to update, however after update nothing changed.

I also got phone from P4U i been testing it seems gd...

My S2 wont pick up any wifi at all now, but i'm pretty sure our router is working as this laptop and the wife's iphone and my ps3 connect every time ?

My wifi signal strength is poor compared to Desire HD. On the DHD there was a setting to use max signal strength but on thr SGS2 there isnt this option.

Makes internet connection very slow. Major downside of this device. Oh and that predictive text does not work on keyboard apps on email.

Although my SGS2 shows a very low WiFi signal, it still performs as if it had full signal so I can't complain.

Yeah mine still performs well, so its possible its just a software issue, i.e. they have configured the indicator wrong and its being really sensitive to jus tthe top 50% signal or something like that?

Samsung used to have a setting in their older phones that would change the wifi transmit power from powersaving mode 10mw to 100mw full power.

Also, there may be a setting in your router that is affecting the connection. I have a lot of wifi devices. phones, consoles, laptops, radio, etc. Each device was sensitive to an aspect of the wifi setup, and i went through several routers before i got them all working well.

Could be a setting like having upnp off or on. Maybe it works better on a certain channel. Try using a different encryption. WPA2 is better for n. Sometimes devices don't like WMM, so try turning that off. Additionally check for things that may interfere with the signal. If you have many devices, make sure to use short preamble.

Well, I exchanged my phone for a replacement (newer stock evidently) and I still have the same issue. Poor range and download speeds limited to ~1700Kbps, while iPhone gets 7500Kbps. I am hoping this will be fixed in a future firmware update as it is a bit of a pain not being able to use wifi in parts of the house!
