Help Thor pictures & Millennial Media Folders Keep Installing!

OstrichSaK

I delete it and it comes back. I'll be scanning through my gallery and every now and then I have a new folder called thor_(insert a bunch of random numbers here) with Thor pictures in them. I haven't downloaded or installed anything related to this that I know of if I delete the primary folder (called millennialmedia in the root of my sdcard) it seems to return after some time. I'm not sure what triggers it or when it's downloaded/installed.

Anyone else have this issue or anything related? I'm running a rooted Evo 4G running a MikFroyo ROM.

Stock evo, had the same thing. After gingerbread update I did a factory reset and it hasn't returned.

I'm not sure why I keep getting it. I had it stock for a few months and never had it. Then I rooted and had no issues for weeks and then all of a sudden it showed up. I thought nothing of it and deleted the main folder and then it returned so now I'm more interested in the cause than the fix in case it returns. It has to be an app or website that's causing it. I just don't know which one so I can correct the cause. A Google research doesn't return anything useful either.

I have also seen this folder show up on my Samsung Epic. I am not sure which app is creating it, but it is annoying...

My guess is Words With Friends is creating the millennialmedia folder. I deleted the foler, openend WWF, then saw the folder was back...

I have the same thing going on. I was very disturbed by what I was seeing when googling to figure out what it was. Leavebehind.jpg is what the main picture ad is always called... If you search on that, you get page after page of photo buckets and flickrs with these images in them.

I can't help but wonder if this is an intentional underhanded advertising ploy to abuse gallery dumps into such sites.

This could very well be it. I recently begun playing Words and I can't remember if the Thor folders were there beforehand but it was pretty close either way. I'll keep an eye on it and if it shows up again I'm done with Words w/Friends. Unfortunate too because it's a great game and my current favorite but I can't stand this sort of spam and won't support a dev that uses it.

Any confirmation on what the cause of this intrusion is?

Talked to one of my friends who has Words and they say they don't get them. They're not real technical people so I can't confirm 100%.

Here's the list of games that I have:

Angry Birds (all three)
Fruit Ninja
Words w/Friends

There's also a chance it's not even a game actually. I noticed it after I installed Words w/Friends but that doesn't mean it was that specifically that caused it. Soon as I find out what app is doing it it's gone and I will never install an app from that dev again. I will also start a strong anti-dev marketing campaign to get the word out to save others the headache.

I also suspect WWF since I noticed the strange folders popping up a few days after I started playing it, not to mention it was the first app I'd installed in a week or two. I agree, whatever the cause is will be done away with and blacklisted on my part - it's total BS.

pretty sure i confirmed it's Words w/Friends. i'd take the folder out and open WWF and the folder would come back. i uninstalled WWF and haven't had the folder come back after opening several other apps. Doesn't seem that it does it for every one though as I have a bunch of android uses here at work and they all play but not all have the folder appear. Stupid if you ask me.

reinstalled words and so far no folder back... also got back a bunch of games that i had started and disappeared. game has many bugs, it's to bad..

I don't think we can decide that easily. The time frame in which the folders install seem to be random. Installing an app or uninstalling an app doesn't mean that's the one because I've had WwF installed non-stop since I first installed it and I can delete the millennialmedia folder a few times and sometimes it seems to come up a day later and sometimes it appears to be weeks even though I continue to play WwF throughout. They appear to be randomly installing so it's going to be tougher to figure it out. I haven't played for a few days so I'm tempted to just uninstall it for good and if they don't come back then we know. Unfortunately there's not much better of a way to figure this out w/o some inside information.

I just renamed the millennialmedia folder to put a '.' in front of it hoping that the images don't show up in my gallery any further. The hope is that whatever app is doing this installs the new folders (Thor, Winnie the Pooh, Sons of Guns...) within this so they don't show in the gallery rather than creating a new folder w/o the dot. Guess we'll see. If this works I'll leave it installed and just clear out the folder every few months.

OstrichSaK: since your link doesn't appear, can you perhaps advise what the answer to this is? I'm suspecting it's angry birds, as I have minimal apps installed and that's the only one that matches your list of games. Appreciate any help on figuring this out - I just stumbled across the millennialmedia folder by accident today and was rather shocked.

Thanks!
