Help Those little black square things!

Newbie
I bought a huawei ascend. I am clueless. Still trying to find out how to answer the thing :)

I am curious those black square things like on app pages and I have seen on a few magazine ads how do you use them???

Thanks for any help.....also my new phone keeps shutting itself off ... after a couple of minutes I have to unlock and get back to where I was....any help ???
 
They are QRC codes. If you download a code reader from the market, you can just scan the code and it will bring up the app to download directly to your phone.
The ones in magazine ads will take your browser to the respective website.

Your phone does that to save battery. Having the screen on uses more battery than if it's off. There are ways to turn it off. I advise against that.
 
Hi, thanks for the info. I checked Market and didn't see an app for a code reader ....maybe I just don't know what I am looking for....
 
You guys are able to scan barcodes with your Ascends? Every single barcode scanner I've tried doesn't work (I assumed it was because the camera on these phones is poopoo). The only scanner app that *did* work for me was ShopSavvy, but that app was updated and now it doesn't work either. My husband, who has a Kyocera Zio, has no problem scanning things with any barcode scanner app he tries and I really think he likes rubbing that fact in my face, lol.

What scanner apps have you guys found work with the Ascend? I might have missed them and definitely want to try them out.

You're lucky. After it was updated to give us the option of showing a picture of the item we're scanning, I tried to scan many barcodes and only one scanned successfully. I tried scanning barcodes after configuring the options to many different settings but it was no use, so I just uninstalled it. The only positive thing that came from it was uninstalling it freed up about 5MB of phone storage space, lol.
 
I was gonna say, if your gonna try to use a scanner app with the crappy camera on the ascend, you better have perfect lighting, cross your fingers, say a few hail Marys, and be holding a four leaf clover and MAYBE it'll work. Lol

it's not as scary as it seems to some. just read directions and follow carefully.

LOL! From my experience with scanning apps on this phone, these are my thoughts EXACTLY!
