Thunderbolt and Bionic comparison

Im sorry but I find it impossible to "rule all machines" with a colorless screen that has dots on it. It may work for some, but not me. The screen is very important-it is used almost 100% of the time. I came from an EVO with tft screen, and after buying tbolt with wvga I'm not going back. If pentile works for you go for it or keep the phone you have with it. They all run on android, so ultimately we are all on the same team.

The Thunderbolt's screen is too dim to be worth anything. I don't know about you but I put value into being able to use the phone outdoors and I also like using Google Maps navigation(which is an exercise in eye strain because of how hard the screen is to see outside, even in a car). I won't even get into the Thunderbolt's GPS(which is the least accurate and most buggy GPS unit on the 6 Android phones I have owned) Super LCD has all of the cons of AMOLED(battery drain, impossible to view if you're not inside) and has none of the pros, the colors are very average, nothing particularly good or noteworthy at all. It really is the most pointless screen technology on the market, even normal LCD is better. I specifically remember the screen being a downgrade when I went from the OG Droid X to the Thunderbolt.

I'll take the Bionic's screen over it 100% of the time. Higher resolution, significantly brighter, it's no contest. Heck, the Bionic's screen at 25% brightness is brighter than the Thunderbolt's at 100%.

And tbolt screen has accurate colors. Greens are brown on pentile. I personally don't use my phone outside much. If I am outside im usually doing something I usually don't use my phone. I'm my car on a sunny day I have no problem seeing the screen. Most of my use is indoors. Heck, if you use your phone for excessive use outside pentile may be better for you. I don't so accurate color is more important to me.

I would save my upgrade for the Prime which is a couple of weeks away... I couldn't stand the grainy screen of the Bionic so I sent it back and saved my upgrade.

Accurate colors on a phone screen .... seriously? I have to ask is it for a reason or rather that is your personal preference?

Not true. I think the colors on my Bionic are very accurate. When you look at photos taken with a high end SLR on the Bionic, they look perfect. Not grainy at all, even the greens. I don't get it. The "home screen" has checkerboard greens, but photos don't. Must be partly software induced....

And like others have said. Good luck trying to see the screne on the TB while you are snow skiing in the winter, or on a bike ride in the summer.

This conversation is becoming less and less productive. It's obvious his decision has been made. If you can return a phone six times and STILL prefer it over the Bionic, it's obvious it's not for him. If screen is the greatest concern and you need a phone now, do try the Droid Charge. Def the best screen on the market, and is every bit as capable as the other single core 4G phones. Or if you truly love HTC, the Vigor/TB2 shouldn't be too far down the line.

who takes their phone SKIING?!?!!?!?!!

Though I can accept the pentile due to power savings, higher res and looks great in the sun, the slight trail blurring of some colors when moving is annoying. At first I thought this was a special effect in some games, but compared it to the Incredible and D2 and sadly is NOT a special "effect" in the game, but is an "affect" of the pentile tech being used. You do not notice it in movies, but games ARE noticed. Droid 4 and Bionic 2 needs one of the new Hitachi IPS displays next year :)

Still, I am happy with my device, from a total feature standpoint, but my weighting of features is not a standard (nor anyone else).

Added:

I notice the same issue with the Steve Austin. The Tbolt aint' got no Blur UI or blur to the eye ;) At least the Tbolt has that going for it :)

I had the Tbolt since April, and gave it to my wife Friday night when I got the Bionic. Prior to the Tbolt, I had a Droid X. The Bionic has significantly better battery life, especially for someone like me who rides a train for over 1 1/2 hours per day, and spends a great deal of that time streaming MLB At Bat, Pandora, etc.

The other feature, which appears to be a Moto vs. HTC thing is the auto answer feature. When using a wired headset or bluetooth, you can't set the HTC phones to auto answer. That seems like a simple feature they could easily add if they listened to their customers. I know there's an app for that, but I tried several, and none of them work as well as the native Moto feature.

Plus, as of today, the Tbolt is still waiting on Gingerbread. Some flagship phone, huh?

There are certainly things about the HTC that I prefer. The native weather/clock widget are wonderful, and the screen is more vibrant, but not as good as the Samsung.

To me, battery life was the driving force, and so far, I'm very tickled.

wow slick, first post...... fair review. u should learn about rooting. i have had gingerbread on my bolt for more than a month! it will come in handy down the line when the Bionic starts getting passed up (it always happens).

as for the bolt not getting gingerbread, thank Verizon, they're the ones who are stalling.

hope you enjoy your new phone!

I had the tbolt and just got the Bionic a couple days ago.

Network speeds are MUCH faster on the Bionic than the Thunderbolt. Though the tbolt "seems" to get better network coverage. Ill take my consistent network connection and faster speeds on the Bionic over what looks like better reception on the tbolt.

The screen doesn't bother me much on the Bionic. Colors seem fine and its incredibly bright and usable in the sun. I can't say the same for the tbolt. It was almost unusable in the sun, which sucks seeing as I drive a convertible.

The Bionic is much faster, much better phone IMO.

i see everyone saying the screen is this and that. i put several pic's on the home screen and zoomed in and even put the phone up to my face close enough to cause strain and i cant see anything you guys are saying. look fine to me. i am very particular about my electronics and would notice the slightest flaw. i just wish i got better service were i work like i did with my black berry.

only thing i see is in bright light with the screen off you can see the grid like look on the screen but it goes away once you turn it on.
