I've been having some issues the last few days with my GPS locking in on my location. Was fine since I got it, now it just won't lock in. Anyone else having this issue?

very common issue--being addressed in the RUU that was just leaked

flash the RUU, or wait for the OTA (whenever that gets pushed)

OR

download something like GPS Status app and follow the steps to have it fix your reception. works for most users that have had the same issue.

Thanks, I'll try GPS status...just weird. Since I took it out of the box is was spot on, just crapped out all of a sudden.

+1

The radio upgrade makes a HUGE difference with the GPS.
+2 makes huge difference - for worse!! For the first time after reboot, i am waiting like almost a minute to get it locked. After that, its totally different proposition, it locks in, in about few seconds. :D

one download version is for Rooted users (requiring the S-off),
one download version is for non-rooted users (S-on)

-if you go into your HBoot screen & see S-on, then you're not rooted, so you need to find the version for non-rooted users-

if you downloaded the RUU from that link provided by the user Ibrick, it might be for Rooted users.
check Androidcentral, DroidLife, or most any other android site for the non-root version download link

might have just downloaded the wrong file--that's what's giving you the issues

yes I did...but I'm getting mixed answers though...some are saying I need to be rooted...s-off?

No.

1. Make sure you are using this version of the RUU . XDA Forum thread on the signed RUU.

2. Rename it to PG05IMG.zip . It will not flash unless it's named this.

3. Put the zip in the root folder of your SD card.

4. Boot into hboot by powering off, then powering on while holding volume down.

5. hboot will scan for the file automatically. When prompted, confirm you want to apply the update by pushing volume up.

WARNING : THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE! IF YOU ARE ROOTED, THIS WILL UNROOT YOU.

Thanks for the reply...

I was just trying to apply the radio itself...not the RUU...

So I can't just update the radio by itself?...

It would be the same procedure, but I'm not sure why you would only want to update the radio. This is a signed image from HTC, so it most likely will be the OTA pushed to you in a few weeks. If for no other reason, you should flash the full RUU for the "Proximity Sensor's battery drain" fix.

Will do...downloading now...

Thanks again for all the replies...

Just a thought for everyone on the GPS lock timeframe ...

I flashed the new RUU update and it does fix the software based issues

...but it does take a while to lock the first time. This is no different than when you use any GPS device. I have quite a few of them and ideally you should be outside, where the GPS can get a clear fix from at least three satellites (which is how it ids your position). If you are indoors, obstructed etc it will have a hard time locking those satellites. Once it finds the three satellites the first time, subsequent locks could be faster - depending on a bunch of variables.

If you are using Google Maps, I believe it establishes your locator pin using the cell tower triangulation initially and will get "better" after GPS fix is established as described above.

So, while the RUU fix is a definite bonus, help the unit out by giving it a fair shot at nailing satellites.

disclaimer: I am not a techie so don't flame me on tech details...I just use these GPS devices alot.
