thunderbolt random reboot fix

VZW reps are full of bs. When I called about the battery drain problem, I was told Lithium batteries have memory. My reply "So of all of the companies in the world that sell Lithium batteries with their products, only HTC phones sold by VZW include lithium batteries with a memory issue, that is quite a trick"

They sent me a free battery.

I don't know, I could see 2 apps that could potentially be causing issues after the OTA update.

1. Back Up Assistant - they did something to it so that it shows in the App drawer. Maybe something behind the scenes is causing an issue?

2. CityID - most of us opened the app and then uninstalled it (but not really) when we first got the phone. I have no idea - but maybe the OTA did something to it, and now the system thinks it's "installed" and when you get a call the phone tries to get to CityID and goes into a memory loop and eventually runs out of memory... which eventually causes the reboot?

Squash these if they're completely wrong
Agreed, since the ota I've seen back up assistant constantly restarting. I've never used it or opened it, tried updating it and now its worse. I think I'm the only person that likes cityid though

Its quite ridiculous, my TB is randomly rebooting about 10 times a day. I've done a battery pull and even read that if you take out the SIM card that helped. Nothing has helped at all. I've done a factory reset as well. I wish VZW would get their heads out of their rear ends and fix this issue. This isnt some $5 phone and Im still within my 30 days. Grrr.

I just got off the phone with HTC, the guy told me that they are aware of the problem and that they are working on a fix.. unfortunately no ETA though.

Today is the last day of my trial period and I'm torn between keeping the the TB or bringing it back for inc2...

Ive seriously considered taking mine back for a DX2. I had the DX before the thunderbolt and passed it down to my husband but Im trying to be patient which isnt working out so well for me. I really liked the DX and I had no problems what so ever out of it...well except that camera sucks but it is a phone.

I wish I had that option... My trial period will run up before X2 gets here. :(

Good Question. Perhaps you could call customer service since they are taking DX2 orders online?

Im gonna head over to the vzw store and see what they have to say... I really want to try another phone instead of this tbolt before my 14 day trial is over.

Got my TB on release day. Being new to Android, I haven't downloaded many apps (perhaps ten or so) and am not a power user by any stretch of the imagination.

I never had any reboot issues until the update. I have had them only a few times (guessing about 7 or 8) since the update. I cannot understand why some people are getting so many each and every day and others are getting only occasional and others still not at all.

I think that gottabemobile article may have been edited. I saw it when it first posted and thought it suggested trying turning the phone completely off for ten minutes as a possibility - but it read as if they did not believe it (read as sarcasm). i could be wrong about it being THAT article as I get google updates on all TB posts so many pass before my eyes.

I'm willing to try the three possibilities that I have read about - even if I do not see the connections.
- I had installed Skype but had not yet used it - so I just uninstalled that.
- will do a batt pull and just leave it out for ten minutes as that should kill 2 birds... (batt pull and ten min off)

After coming from BB Storm1, this phone is such a huge improvement (especially browsing and I live in EVDO only area). I still have a substantial learning curve ahead of me but so far I am happy with this phone. I will be even happier when these new reboot issues cease!

Anyone using the Phandroid app? How do I select a thread prefix when posting a new topic? Can't create a new thread without doing it, but there appears to be no way to select one from the app, making it impossible to start a new thread using the app. This, obviously, is not the case. What am I missing?

Just go in and change Backup Assistant's schedule to update overnight, while you're charging/sleeping. This'll do 2 things--save battery usage during the day and stop that irritating mid-day network bogging activity. With this config AND limiting the number of messages that the mail app keeps on my phone, I never have a single reboot.

That was..... A whirl wind of fail.... I wasnt thinking (I've never ever opened b-a) and tried that and now I'm stuck with it being part of automatic syncs. Now its more persistent and I had to turn off sync. Which is making HTC sense and all those annoying apps I don't use restart constantly... *sigh another factory reset when I get home... Yipee

Thanks for a possible solution though I suppose

Funny how when you call Verizon (i've called 3 times) they still act as if it's the 1st time they have heard of the issue... "Random Reboots, on your Thunderbolt? Never had anyone complain... Let me check our database, nope not a know issue!"

At this point I'm fine if they lie to me... just fix it!

The rebooting has gotten exponentially worse since last week. It is rebooting in a loop about every 10 minutes. This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!! I can be in the middle of texting or a phone call and the dang thing shuts off! I didnt pay $250 for a piece of junk!!!!!!!!! So dang frustrating!!!!!!

+1

The phone may be more capable then my ally but if I have to use it unstable like this any longer its becoming Target practice. I've been able to keep a handle on it and it will only reboot once or twice a day but its still annoying.

Im starting to believe it does have something to do with the towers though. It only reboots at my home. I've been at work today and it hasnt rebooted once but while I was at home this morning with no electric because of a storm...it rebooted before, during, and after the outage numerous times. My office is about 10 miles away from home and its working like a charm!

I've noticed after the OTA update, I have generally have less free memory with no real change in my usage pattern. I want to say prior to the update, I usually sat with around ~180 mb free and now after the update, I'm usually around 120-130 mb free. Could there be a memory leak somewhere, the reboots then resulting from the system running low on memory, and glitching/rebooting on that?
