Root thunderbolt rooting methods(updated 8-24-2011)

Well, I was successful in rooting my TB using Revolutionary. I downloaded Root Checker to verify.

Now, how do I find and remove all the bloatware that HTC put on my phone.

Ron

Hi,
Welcome to the unlimited world of choices :-)
From reading here and my limited experience I would recommend not removing bloatware which can cause a host of problems. I think you would be in much better shape if you would flash a new custom rom instead. You can get roms that don't have bloatware and then you can install what YOU want :-) how awesome is that!
I use cm7 1.61 but there are others listed in the top stickies of this forum :-)

Flash a custom rom using the instructions in the in the how to thread that is the easiest way to avoid issues

cool,im not sure what you should do. hopefully it will fail with an error message at some point,so the battery doesnt just run down with it pulgged in.

let me know what you find when you get home. its goot to know that this same file worked for you before.

off to work myself :)

Hi again, so came home from work and nothing has changed on the phone or htc flash utility.
Il just remove the cable and se what will happen.

It might be saved.
After i unpluged it it said something about recovery of the phone and it seems as all its missing is a an "os". Despite me using the same file first time i did a flash this time the message came up that its not compatibel with my phone.
Il try to do it one more time but il download the file you linked and try to flash that.

from the android info doccument, this is for firmware 2.10.405.2. i found another ruu for it,downloaded it,and it does have a different md5 than the other one we used. this doesnt neccessarily mean the one we used is bad, just that there is something different about it.

this is the link to is,just in case we need it later.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
when i get home later, ill extract rom.zip from this one,and make sure its the same as whats in your download, and make sure the hboot is the same as i uploaded for you.

if this is the same file you used the first time,it should still work. if its different, might want to redownload and try again.

if you get it flashed, dont do the hboot update until ive had a chance to check the 2nd ruu :)

i manage to flash the phone without any problems with the ruu link you posted. So il just wait for you now =)
Thank goooodddd i did not mess my phone up :P
pheewwww im so luckkyyyyyy

Okay, sounds like you need to get the stock bootloader onto the phone. Is this a phone you have to send back to your wireless provider or HTC?

i think you are safe... but let me extract the rom from that 2nd ruu and make sure the hboot images are the same. give me a few min :)

ok,you are good to go. the ruu that you used this morning that hung in the middle must have become corrupt, somehow. it had a different md5 than the rom that i extracted from the second link, but luckily some other part was the cuplrit(prolly system,it had an error when i extracted it),as the hboot_8x50_0.93.0001_20100810.nb0 image was the same in both roms.

both hboots images had an md5 of a330d265802187ecd89a1e84a63e3c17 :D

yesterdays download is safe,go ahead and flash it with the new guide and let me know how it goes :)

I need to send it back to HTC because my camera freezez up my phone and shows error messages.

I cant call out because i cant hear who ever i call / calls me but they can hear me.

So HTC is gona take it in for service =/

Il start now then. Be back in a couple of min

Well it worked somewhat... hehe.
Real strange tbh :P

I got thourgh all the steps and i got S off. But revolutionary is still there despite a reboot.
i had my phone set on:
allow unknown sourches
usb debugging on
stay awake on
allow mock locations on

The information on my hboot is as following :

hmm... looks like the unlock code didnt do anything. it didnt write anything, but when you tried it yesterday,it wrote something and took .016 seconds.

maybe just try it again? ill check the files in the desire download and your code and see if i can think of anything else

eastern standard... its only 7:00 pm here :)

the second time was it still 0 seconds? or take a lil time?

while youre in the command window... enter this:
Code:
fastboot oem ?

you dont need to type all that out,but make sure it spits out a long list.

as you can see,an engineering s-off bootloader has a much wider variety of commands. since you used revolutionary,i expected your command list to look like my thunderbolt.

looks like you do not have the "mw" oem command at your disposal,so the "unlock" command is not unlocking

your revolutionary hboot is unfortunately doing its job still, and blocking other hboot flashes.

ill keep searching, maybe there is another way to "unlock" the revolutionaty hboot. but at the moment... it sort of looks like your stuck :(

gahh darn it :(
Oh well they did a good jobb at unlocking it anyway :P got to give em creds for that.

Il look around to. There should be a safe method to remove the revol* unlock but all i have found so far is filled of comments not urging anyone to try =/

Atlest thanks for all the help =)

Il post asap if i find anything.
but for now its bed then, work tomorow.

Thanks and god night =)

Haha sry, tired after work, tired for me = stupid :P

-n <page size> specify the nand page size. default:

I don't know if it would make a difference but it looks like the command he used "C:\DESIRE>fastboot oem?" is missing the space between oem and the ?

There may be better results by typing "C:\DESIRE>fastboot oem ?"

I am not an ADB expert like some people here ;) but I have played with programing languages quite a bit and I do believe that would qualify as a syntax error and likely not give the results you are expecting.

ahhh gpood catch,yeahha.

checked it,and got similar:
