Time to update

Hi everyone, i just rooted my phone today, im on bell, my phone is the GT-I9100M and im running android 2.3.3, and my build number is GINGERBREAD.UGKG2. I am aware of the advantages of 2.3.4 so i would like to update to that. However if i do that using odin (cause its not available in canada officially yet) will that wipe everything on my phone such as my apps and files? Also what is the best ROM out there for me to get as i understand they are much better then defualt android... if anyone could recommend me a rom to get with a guide for MY kernal and model so i dont brick my phone it would be greatly appreciated

well u can get 2.3.4 (or 2.3.5 now) with a stock rom, ive been using them and have no complaints..i think KI8 is the newest, although i can personally recommend KI3.. both running 2.3.5.

updating via Odin should not erase anything from ur phone.. however, there are some updates that are marked "WIPE", so obviously if u flash one of these, u will have to wipe ur phone (factory reset) or ur phone wont work. but there are non-wipe versions of most firmwares, definitely KI8.. check out this link if u havent already

I am seeing none of those firmwires for North America because they dont have "UG" in them. Am i right?

I'd be wary of using a European firmware on a Bell handset until you get confirmation that there are no unwanted side-effects. I don't think there will be but better safe than sorry.

apologies for any misinformation, im not familiar with north american providers etc :D and i assumed it was an international device coz it was posted here. lol

Also you sometimes can get non wipe versions so you don't have to wipe your phone although some prefer too
