Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

Just a quick question.

If I am using the Sprint network outside of home, come home and get on my wifi, am I still on the Sprint 3G network, or do I need to turn it off?

3G should go into standby mode....but if you are using wifi I would just turn off 3G using the mobile widget. No need for it to run while on wifi.

Any luck with the disable auto screen on when charge cord connected?

NOPE! but, mine is not doing that now. I noticed the other day. But I am sure it had to do with some of the mods that I installed. I couldn't tell you which ones caused it but I think it was a combo of things I did. I did do some searching and found no kind of setting that did that. I even searched through the original battery thread that you mentioned you saw it. Couldn't find a damn thing.

Damn must have been dreaming.. Thanks. Next question can you attach an Mp3 to your gmail? Because mine will not give me the option of audio/Mp3 to attach while I am composing. Nor when I go to an Mp3 and hit share will it show gmail as a share option..only bluetooth.

Download an app called Astro File Manager. Then when you go to add an attachment you can select astro and attach anything in your SD Card including MP3's. Tested and works.

Added Question to first post.

Is there a place in the Mail app that lets you assign a sound for mail and then in messages a place to assign a different sound. Trying to get different sounds for the different programs....

This ones is covered in the first post but simply so I will expand on it.
Notifications in the main settings will cover pop/exchange email:
Menu/settings/Sound & Display

Notifications in GMail will cover email
Gmail/Menu/settings/Select Ringtone

Notifications in the text messaging app will cover text
All Programs/Messages/menu/settings/Notification sound

All 3 can be different.

If you use the application Handcent for SMS you can set different ringtones per contact.

Just to make sure you did get Astro File manager correct? Hmmm maybe its the rom I am running thats letting me do it. I am running Fresh 0.3 and am rooted but I didn't think that would matter. There is another one that shows up for me when I do that and its OI File Manager. Maybe load that one and see if it will work.

Yes both installed and tried. Everyone at the Sprint store who I know very well says it can do this without a file manager. Going there now to see there demo phone and get the one they have waiting for me. Thanks so much I'll let ya know what happens.

How are you setting the ringtones for those contacts?

I am going into the contact, and selecting the ringtone. In the contact itself it shows the ringtone I have chosen....but when they call my phone, it still plays the default.

Is there another way to do this. I have also tried doing it through ringdroid...to no avail.

Hmmm are you using the built in ringtones? or ringtones from your SD card. If you are using ones from your sd card I would make sure they are set up in the proper file setup on the card. Refer to the first post for proper file set up. Other then that I have no clue whats going on there. I have different RT for my contacts and they work great. Also are you using full MP3's? or are they shortened? All my ringtones are MP3's but are cut down to smaller size. That might make a difference too. In case you need it there is an app called junk my ringtone that will allow you to shorten any mp3 to use as ringtone.

The ringtones themselves are stored just like in the post you mention. And they are ringtones I made myself, with either ring droid, or the built in trimmer.

I don't why it is doing this, all I know is it's frustrating.

Just trying to eliminate known issues here, but are you using a task killer by chance? I have heard that they will mess with your notifications. Even if you just have them installed and not running they will sometimes cause issues.

SirSlayer as I promised here is the update on my situation. New Evo yesterday almsot 24 hrs of use. Did the same tweeks as before battery seems to be a non issue. No task killer app installed. The OS of the phone will still not allow a direct attachment of Mp3's to a gmail. However I did install Astro and it now does work as you described when going to attach or share atro comes up as an option to pull files from. Very happy! It also appears that this new Evo has features previously not found on the one from the launch day. HMMM? For instance now when setting an Mp3 as a ring tone I have an option to chop/shorten at a desired part of the Mp3 and assign. I don't know if this is astro or the phone doing this action but it is cool. I will keep you posted on anything else I stumble upon with the new Evo. Thanks for your patience and help. Dan

Awesome!!! glad to hear its working now. No telling what caused it so when you add back some of your apps make sure to check that functionality after each install. Something you loaded before may have broke it.

Thanks for the update!!!!

No task killer, not anymore at least. I use watchdog now...with android mate to close out any "unnecessary" apps when it hits the threshold.

You should only kill apps when there is absolutely no other way to close a Hung app. If Android needs memory, it will close it for you. I have told many Android users this. "Let go of the stress of killing apps and your life with android will get better...lol". Anyways there is my rant on task killers. I would try not killing apps for awhile and see if that fixes things. You might be surprised.

That is what I just said. I stopped using Task Killers. I use Android mate to close out the internet when i'm done with with, or to close out last.fm after scobbling. I don't kill excessive apps, I did on my Samsung Moment, haven't on my EVO.

Ok...cool. just was makeing sure ;).

The SD card you are using. Is it the one that came with the phone? If so do you have another one that you can copy your stuff too just to see if you still get the same problem?
