Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

everytime i create a photos folder on my pc for the sd card it doesnt show up after i unplug the usb. when i plug the usb back in the folder is gone. any ideas

Where are you putting the folder on the SD Card? Are you placing it in the DCIM folder? If so then that's the problem. You are not supposed to put folders in that directory, its reserved for the camera. I created a pictures folder in the root directory of the SD card and then have all the sub-folders I want in there.

B. If you want to make a contact show up in the "Favorites" widget do this: (Thanks Companyman)
1. Go into the People application and select your contact
2. Select the "Edit" function near the bottom of the page (might have to scroll down to see it)
3. Under the "Group" section select the Favorite group

Ohh thank you!

1. Through the laptop: Connect your usb cable to the phone and the computer. Select Disk Drive if you are prompted to connect to the computer. If you are not prompted then drag your top bar down and select Charge Only then select Disk drive. This will allow your computer to see the SD Card. You can create folders that way just like you do in Windows.

2. Using the phone: For this you will need a file manager that you can download from the Market. The one I like the best is Astro File Manager. It has a ton of functionality and the best part is you can create folders and move files around without connecting to the computer. Once Astro is Loaded open it up. Hit Menu/New. That's it!

Tried everything I could think of to put any folder on the SD card. So I tried a different card and that one works fine, I can add folders and such. Had to go by the sprint store so they could order me a new one. Don't have a clue what caused the SD card to go bad. Sprint is ordering me a new one

Well at least you got it working. Guess it happens.

Whats the best way to receive multiple email accounts to the phone? Do you need exchange? Or do you have to set up each POP account?

GMail already has its own app. Exchange and POP mail to have to be set up separately in the stock mail app. There may be apps on the market though were you could be able to check them all in one place but I have never looked for one.

Yup, I'm looking to check them all in one location.

Sorry, I can't help you with that one. If Sprint disabled that then you can't fix it without root. Now you can load an app from the Market called Launcher Pro which looks and feels like stock Android.

Is there a way to get audiable notification of a call or text thru my wired mic earpiece while listening to music when my phone us set to vibrate mode? I miss calls all the time because the phone only vibrates.

Hmmmm When I do this the music stops when I get a call. If the volume is up you will hear the ringtone in the head phones. So maybe try not using vibrate mode and see if you hear when the calls coming in.

Ok, thanks. That is strange it actually does that now? Stops music when call in coming. For some reason it did not before.

How do I make folders for my Emails?
I want to save them to the folders to have for later on my Incredible.

In the email client. If its yahoo you create the folders in Yahoo. If its GMail you create the folders in GMail. You should see them show up in the phone after that.

Complete newbe from long time Palm user...... got my Evo yesterday, all synced to Google but is there anyway to sync cal for past events (I have info back to 1999 that I need to search at times) my Evo is only sync'ing 4 months back? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask,

That's a functionality that I need as well. It seems my repeat evens like birthdays, etc. go back a long way, but not discrete events, even though they appear on the google calendar on my computer.

I've seen this question asked several times on this forum and others, so far, no answer...

Thats interesting I did respond to that question, though it may not be the answer you are looking for.

Thanks for all the helpful tips!
Is there a way to put a bookmark in a folder? I don't want to have to go to my bookmarks and scroll through it to find the one I am looking for.

Yes you can. Create the folder. Then click the + and select shortcut then select bookmark. From there you choose the bookmark you want. Then drag the bookmark to the folder.

You are right. That's not what I was looking for.

I need to know how to get my calendar events older than the last two months to display on my Evo... So far, the only events older than 60 days that display are the repeating events.

So can I ask why is it so important to have past events that are complete in the calendar? I am not trying to be an ass, but just want to understand the reasoning behind keeping events in the calendar.

Now on to the main issue. Are these events stored in Outlook on an exchange server? I do see like I mentioned before my calendar goes back some 27 months and were repeating events. This is more then likely and issue for HTC and the calendar applications. So for this issue you may want to email them to find out why and if in future builds they can add this functionality.

Yes, you may ask. For the last ten years as a Palm user I have kept notes on incidents that occur or clients that I contact in the conduct of my security related business. I need to refer back to these events from time to time to confirm information as it arises. That's all I can say.

I don't know what an Outlook Exchange server is. In the past, I used the Palm desktop application to back up the data on my handheld devices. Now I have transitioned to the google calendar but the simplicity and elegance of the Palm calendar ap is missed. I would really like it if I could at least get the past date functionality back on my Evo.

My Evo calendar shows repeating events back as far as ten years and more now. I can't think of any reason why it would not be able to show discrete events.

I think I'll take your suggestion and email HTC. Do you have any idea who I would direct that email to, and if I should expect a reply?

Thanks

HTC Mobile Phones - Customer Service - Hotline Support

They should respond, I have no never tried to contact them myself, but hear about people contacting them all the time. I have a friend at my work that has a palm as well, I will see if I can work with him to see what you have there and try to look for a solution to your issue there. Seems to be there should be some kind of export program or something that can help capture/export those events or at least try to find a way to grab the notes from them. That would suck to have to manually grab them. I will let you know what I find out.

Update: Talk to my friend and he uses Google for all his calendar stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more help with that.

Thanks, sent support request to htc and waiting to hear... will update.
*** Update***
just got off the phone with the htc hotline. They were very nice, and took 48 minutes to research the issue. They do not know why the google calendar does not snyc dates older than one month.

Big disappointment for me. This is a functionality I used almost daily on the Palm Treo, and to not have it is close to being a dealbreaker for me and Android. I have another 21 days to return the Evo.

I also sent an email to support, I'll wait to see if the response says anything different.
