Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

FYI... The "This phone belongs to" option is part of the Antivirus application. It is located under settings, remote management, Lost Message. The Lost Message can be customized to say whatever you want, within the character limit. I've noticed that it won't display if you have a security password though. It will display if you have a security pattern though.

Thanks for posting this info. That application, is it installed when you got the phone? or was it something you downloaded?

I am seriously thinking that I don't want to update to 2.2. Is there a way to disable the pop up alerts?

Not sure why you wouldn't want to update. And I am sorry but I am running a rooted rom and I don't think my settings are the same for that. My rom has it disabled already.

Anyone else knows how to disable this?

Hey...easy there...I use a Mac with OS 9 :D:D

LOL what does mac have to do with this? hehe I guess what you are saying is that you like mac os 9 instead of 10?

Yea I really don't care if people upgrade, I still know people that prefer windows xp even though windows 7 blows the doors off of xp. Oh well, I work in software development so I understand trade offs with issues. I just felt like 2.2 is so much faster and really doesn't have that many issues for such a low version number. Usually issues will get fixed anyways. Might as well enjoy the new features that are being offered.

Mac OS X has been out for a few years now, so I think what he was trying to say was he doesn't upgrade much. I thought it was a pretty funny response actually. :D

Also looking for an answer to this while I wait to root. It's just annoying.

EDIT:
From 'sw99' on xda -

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't you just go into:
System Updates -> HTC Software Update and uncheck "Scheduled Check"

Hi
at first let me thank you for your helpful notes. Please let me know
1- How can I show the upcoming agenda in the home screen?
2-I'm afraid I have deleted or have no Gallery program on my phone. How can I get it back.
3-Which compass program and which scientific calculator would you suggest?
4- Where can I download some ringtones for my hero?

Thx

1. Add a calendar widget to a home screen. +/Widget/Calendar Swipe to the second option and you will see the agenda widget.

2. That app can't be removed without root so it should still be there. Check the all apps list and see if you see gallery there. Click the button next to the Phone button. Or you can do a factory reset: from home screen, menu/settings/SD & Phone storage/Factory data reset
or: Download the 3D gallery off the forums here. Its a little slow but looks nice.

3. Try them out. I have not loaded either of those so I have no clue.

4. I would just do a search on goolge for ringtones. There are lots of sites out there with ringtones and most should work just fine.

Good luck and glad you stopped by and welcome to the forums Hope this info was helpful. :D

How do I set the slider on the start up page to put my phone on vibrate instead of silence?

Not sure what slider your talking about. I know there is a slider when you use the vol up and down and if you hold it down long enough you will set the phone to vibrate. Other then that not sure what you are asking.

Thanks a bunch! It worked!

When you turn on your phone you will see two sliders. An unlock slider and a slider that puts your phone on silence. Look at this link here... This was a post today that shows you the two sliders on the power screen (Link: [Update] Froyo for the Droid X Leaked, Might Be Headed Our Way in a Few Hours | Android Phone Fans) On the right side there is a slider that currently, on my phone at least, is set to silence the phone. I want to set it so that it will set my phone to vibrate.

Thanks.

So, are you using a rooted rom with vanilla lock screen? Or did you find a way to get that lock screen for EVO without root? Or are you using a phone that is not an EVO? Inquiry minds want to know. Though even if it is any of those I wouldn't have the first clue as to how you would change that option. It might be available in a standard 2.2 vanilla android build. I am running a rooted EVO with fresh rom and can enable that lock screen but have never seen an option to change what that function does. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on that one.

I use ASTRO file manager. I copied about 1500 songs to my Evo last night, all nicely organized into their own folders but album. When I go to the stock player, they are all jumbled up. Mainly because 500 of the songs are a top 500 of all time, so there are about 400 different artists. If I sort by album (the 50 are 5 different albums 0-100, 101-200, etc) it still doesn’t get it quite right. If I go directly into ASTRO, I can select the correct album/folder but then the music player launches and only plays the one song. I have used the various sort options in the stock player, but none show the folders the way I have them set up.

I am just not sure how to get the stock Music player to recognize the sdcar/Music by folder names.

Also - do you all like the stock music player or do you prefer another App that will play and organize music better?

How do I.. copy contact information from the internet browser to a new contact in my phone book? I use google to find phone numbers and would like to save them without bouncing back and forth between the two to get the address, phone number and what not. Is there an easier way of doing it?

Couple if options:
1. Use GMail in the browser on your computer to update the contacts. It will automatically update the phone on the next sync.

2. For just numbers ( haven't tried addresses too) you could use Chrome to Phone. The phone app is on the market and the browser side you may need to search for it. The cool part about this is you can high light a phone number then hit send to phone on the browser and it will show up on your phone ready to dial. Which at that point you can save as a contact. May not be much better but its fun!!!'
