Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

Thanks for all the help. It takes a lot of time I know. This is a long thread. Several questions -

1. Do the photos you use in contacts get embedded in the contact or do you have to retain a separate sd folder for them?

2. Is there any way to "ID" or mark the contact listing in the 'All Contacts" view so you can tell if the contact has been added to a group or not. In other words - without opening each individual contact?

3. My contacts (people) has 'groups'. If I sync to my Windows Contacts folder, which has 'folders' do the names of the two have to be the same? Will the right updated/new contacts be placed in the right folders/groups?

4. When following your suggestion about syncing from people to GMail I get an error message -
"delete limit exceeded" with the following choices - 1. delete the items 2. undo deletes 3. do nothing for now. Not understanding what choosing #1 would do I chose #3. Then I can't get it to stop syncing without shutting all the selections in sync to off and restarting the phone.

1. They embed.

2. NO, but you can view your groups then you can see what contacts are in the groups in the group view.

3. No clue, give it a shot and let us know how it turns out.

4. I have never seen this so your guess is as good as mine.
 
I guess there is still no way to have just your people in your address book linked to FB and noone else. I hate when I go to phone and see every friend i haveon FB that has a listed number show up. I said call so and so the other day and it called some other person that I don't really even know and I couldn't get it to hang up in time. I use call confirm but have it set to shut off when bluetooth voice dialing. One of my old phone would give you an option to speak yes or no now it just dials. But I hate having every FB person synched on your phone when all you want is your address book people.

If you hate FB sync so much then why use it? I would offer you some help but I don't use FB at all. So I hope someone else can offer help here.

a. either unsync HTC FB for Sennse

or

b. people-->menu-->view-->uncheck Facebook contacts

see if that works
 
Unless it's changed with 2.2 if you uncheck and dont sync then noone is synced not even your Contacts which is what I want only my people in my address book on fb I want synced. I don't want to see all my friends in the list when emailing or when I go to phone. And I have unchecked under people. Yesterday I voice dialed a name in my book and it dialed some guy on facebook that I barely know and I couldn't hang up in time.
 
I use the Directions & Navigation shortcut. The shortcut/widget is pretty small. Is there a way or option to have a (selectively) larger shortcut?

Only if one is offered. Thats a third party application so unless they build a widget or someone else builds a widget then I would have to say no.

I didn't realize that the shortcut was a sub of Maps. I looked in Maps & they have various "options" including the Labs. But, alas, nothing about shortcut size. I'm trying the Navigation(free) app to see if that's any better.

New EVO last night (business phone) and as I started moving through the system I pressed Facebook (now I know I was in people) and have added all of my personal Facebook contacts to the phone. I now need to get them out or there. Is there a simple way?

Welcome to the forums!!! Well if you sync all your contacts to Google then they might show up on the web and then you could delete them from gmail contacts. Other then that you may need to delete them one at a time. But also you will want to make sure your not syncing facebook contacts from now on or they will end up back on there. To check the sync: from the main screen hit menu/settings/Accounts and sync and make sure facebook is not listed.

didnt i mention this here, just a few short posts above??

also in a few other threads i have told folks how to do this...

you must delete the HTC facebook for sense account in "accounts and sync" and use another FB app to access your FB acct, or use the direct website...i still think doing this and keeping the account off this particular stock program, my battery life is much improved...another advantage(imho)

you can also just choose not to view the contacts..(see option "b" in my post above)

So you can delete sense one and keep the android app one also or go to the web either one? And if sense isn't there your not syncing but can you still link people in your address book to FB? That's what I want only under people if there on FB I want them linked. I have it unchecked now and mail and messages show all my friends but I use Hand cent and it let's me un check also. I'll have to mess with it. But thanks for the info.

Someone can correct me if i am wrong, but I believe it is the HTC FB for sense that allows you to sync FB contacts to your "people" folder, I do not think (tho i havent honestly tried) you can use another FB app to do that...either you have your FB contacts in or not..

If you have them synced, its whether you choose to "see" them or not, and "link" them or not...or even view their birthdays in calendar or not...
In your people folder, you can:
a. go to settings-->view--> and uncheck FB contacts
b. then go to each individual you want linked, and link them yourself to a fb contact manually..then you "see" only who you want...(their pic comes along too and will update their profile with their FB pic)
c. goto calander and choose in settings whether you want to "see" birthdays..unfortunately, here, in my experience, its all or none...

when I select a icon on my screens the color around the icon is lime green. Is there a way to turn this off? or change the color?

Not on a Stock Rom. If you are Rooted there may be other ROMs out there that have been customized but there still would not be an easy way to change this.
