Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

Thanks, I pretty much knew what all you said. But if I don't sync contacts at all and erase them all then I can't just link the people in my address book I don't think which is what I was wanting to do. It's all or none I believe. I need to delete a bunch of people from my friends list anyway and resync. But I want to unsync everyone and then see if I can just link my people in my address book but in 2.1 it wouldn't let you. I just want to see my address book people linked with FB and there birthdays and stuff not everyone on my friends list which I've stated. But I think your correct sense lets you sync but that came with the phone and I doubt you can uninstall it. I still get confused with that and the regular facebook for Android app and I mostly go to the web but I do like the app also.

Under accounts and sync I have 2 Facebooks showing up one shows my email address Iu se to log in and the other says for sense and there is an option to remove both accounts. Should I remove the sense one the other one also has a sync contacts options and it looks like it synced on 9/3. Maybe I'll delete both and start over and not sync any contacts then try to link my contacts in address book one at a time and see if it works now.

If you have them synced, its whether you choose to "see" them or not, and "link" them or not...or even view their birthdays in calendar or not...
In your people folder, you can:
a. go to settings-->view--> and uncheck FB contacts
b. then go to each individual you want linked, and link them yourself to a fb contact manually..then you "see" only who you want...(their pic comes along too and will update their profile with their FB pic)
c. goto calander and choose in settings whether you want to "see" birthdays..unfortunately, here, in my experience, its all or none...

Just gonna ask the question here. How do I disable the sense UI on 2.2? I forced stop it and clear for defaults, but it wont let me use the home button to use android UI. Any tips would be great. thanks

If you are running a stock rom you will not be able to just turn it off. You can however load other home screen applications like Launcher Pro from the market. That one is the closet to stock android that I know of.

Other way:
Root your phone and load a custom ROM that has sense removed. Look to XDA Developers to find out how to root your phone.
 
I messed up my phone now. I went under account and sync to delete Facebook and for some reason whenever I try to sync Google here lately contacts wont sync and I get some error message saying try again later. My calendar and gmail synced today but my contacts wont sync. There all on my pc at gmail.com though. But I deleted both Facebook accounts and rebooted now when I go to phone noone is there but my contacts in my people list don't even show up. I clicked on people and it's stuck on loading mt handcent all of a sudden keeps force closing. My phone rebooted when I clicked on phone and started to dial.

But somewhere under people it said online directories and I clicked on Facebook and it asked for my email and password so I put it in wanting to see if my contacts would load in people but they won't it just says loading in people and it finally at one point forced closed I think. But now that I put in my FB email and password it's back under accounts and sync FB for HTC sense but it's not synced. But I don't know why my contacts won't load. I wanted to remove Google account but it said I would lose contacts and stuff. Will it all come back if I re add it? Now it's trying to syn my Google contacts and the syncing icon is moving but nothing is happening. Lately it's been saying that it's unavailable or something try again later. I may have to hard reset my phone. I think an app may be causing me some problems maybe but not sure which one it could be. But it's trying to sync my contacts and wont. But if I remove Google my contacts will all still be online won't they? My phones been acting slow and sluggish all day. What all will get deleted if I remove Google and will it all come back if I re add it? I don't know why my contacts wont sync. It says July 28th. And I even removed my peoples icon and readded it and it still wont bring my contacts up says loading. All this after removing both Facebook accounts from sync which I guess I shouldn't of done. My Facebook for Android app asked for me to sign in again too when I clicked on it. But I just want my contacts to load under people and my google contacts to sync. I really don't want to hard reset but may have too.

Whew that was a lot to swallow! lol Man I hope everything turns out better. Yes as long as your contacts are on the web you can wipe your phone and your contacts will load right up. Its really hard for me to see exactly whats going on with your phone but a hard reset might be in order. make sure apps with notes or other data you might have are backed up if they have that option. I myself can't stand Facebook so I won't be able to try what you did. Good Luck and I hope it gets better.
 
Sorry I just don't get it but I woke up this am and now when I go to people it loads my contacts are back and Handcent SMS came right up. I kept getting Force Close from Handcent and also it would say force close Android Process. I still don't get it and now when I go to phone I see all my friends again from FB even though I removed HTC sense and it's back under accounts and sync I just haven't resynced my contacts but there back.But still when I go to Google and sync contacts it wont sync. But there current online I believe. I just didn't want to lose my other stuff I have several scenes configured even though I use the main one. And I think Multicon slows me down too cause it takes longer to boot up now and I see blank multicon icons for a minute then everything loads. I may delete that too. I'm trying to see if a recent app had made me sluggish and slow. But now stuff seems ok. I really don't want to hard reset. But yesterday under accounts and sync I had 2 facebooks there regular and sense. Now just sense and I want to remove it again but I'm afraid.

And if I remove Google from accounts and sync and re add what will happen? I better not mess with that neither but I can't get contacts to sync it says last sync 7/28 but gmail and calendar have todays date. It's weird and was starting to remind me of my old TP2 when it would not load sense right and be slow and sluggish and I would have to reset it. But anyway for now I think I am ok. Thanks,

Ok I have one more question sorry! Can unsyncing all your FB friends make your storage space on your phone go up from 62mb to 149mb that much? Before I removed FB for sense I would see the same friends names several times in a row under phone or when sending an email. Now noone is synched to FB. I did add FB for sense back but am only syncing the feed. It's not that I hate it it's just on my old phone TP2 I could manually link just my contacts one by one. I didn't have to sync and see my whole friends list. Now noone is synced and my megabytes went way up. My phone had been saying low storage space here lately. And I was just wondering if it went up so high cause I am no longer syncing my contacts on FB? Just Curious! But my phone is better now and has been fast all day and no force closes. So hopefully I wont have to hard reset. :-) But thanks for your replies.

Could be, not really sure though. You do know that with 2.2 you can move some apps to your storage card now right? And free up some of that space.

Also clearing your cache for your browser would help too.
 
On my old Palm Centro, I was able to download an app that continually notified me if I missed a call, had a voice mail or text, etc. On my evo, when I get a text message, voice mail, or missed call, I get a single notification sound, and the LED blinks for a while, but what I'm looking for is something that will constantly nag me if I missed something. Most of the time my phone is in another room of the house, so I'll miss messages because I didn't happen to hear the single notification sound. I have done some searching, but haven't been able to find an app or setting that would do this. Any ideas?

Not sure about missed calls or emails but for text messaging you can use handcent and has a built in notifications that you can set to send you reminders for unread texts. I will keep my eye open for something similar for email and calls.
 
Yes I know and I have moved every app that can be moved. Most can't be moved. But it was just weird how I had been going back and forth from 40 something to 60 something and then all of a sudden I was at 149mb's after unsyncing contacts. So I put this game back on that I had delete4d which was like 8,000 kb and tonight my phone died at work and I swapped out batteries. After it rebooted I figured from me putting this game back on it would say 141 and it actually said 150. I'm not complaining.

I'm good now but my friend said maybe me unsyncing my contacts did have something to do with it. I have like 250 or 300 FB contacts and some names were showing up several times with different emails and cell phones numbers. But I check all my apps every so often to see if any have changed to where I can add to sd card. I have 2 gigs left out of 8 I want to get a 16. But thanks again I was just curious if that is what gave me so many mb's back and I guess maybe it did. :-)

Quick question,did they remove the calibration tool for the keyboard in froyo? or am i missing this setting??
BTW I'M running unrooted stock froyo 2.2

Yes that's what i'm looking for,but on my phone when i go thru those settings there is no calibration tool menu there, i have qqerty,phone keypad andcompact qwerty,other settings and the last option under tthat is vibrate when typing with a box to enable/disable that's all:confused:

Yea your confusing us too hehe. Did you install a third party keyboard?

So after scrolling down you don't see the options for calibration tool? You could try this:
Download and app called better cut from the market. Then on a home screen that has room for a shortcut click + then shortcut/ click on better cut. choose activity, this will take time to load. Scroll through the list till you find Keyboard Calibration and select it. Then click create. This will create a direct shortcut to the calibration tool. If that doesn't work then I would suggest a factory reset.
 
please help.

i'm having an issue using my phone as a navigation unit and music player/pandora at the same time. all is well until the turn by turn voice directions happen in the google nav. at that point my music is cut and not and not returned into play mode. is there a setting or fix for this?

My music will come back when she talks but I have always thought the google nav voice was annoying so I just disabled the voice nav. I was also using Pandora. Is the voice nav something you need? You could try that and see if it makes a difference.

i like the voice navigation sometimes, that way i don't have to always take my eyes off from the road.

i found a resolution after some research... i stopped using Pandora lol
instead i switched to slacker radio for online radio (sound quality is even better imo) and mixzing for music already on the phone.

both return to the music after voice directions from the navigation :p
 
I downloaded a NFL.apk to my computer. I mounted my SD card and tried to see if the app was there and it's nowhere to be found. How do I pull my downloaded apps from my SD card to my phone. I have the Samsung Moment M900.

Use Astro File Manager (Its free in the market). It has a built in app manager. You need to make sure you have the setting checked to allow unknown sources under menu/settings/applications.
