Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

The Google Contacts feature is pathetic. I need to list my contacts by company name, but Google doesn't allow this. Any idea if the Droid interface with Google Contacts can do this?

Faililng this, anyone have suggestions for a good Droid product that offers full contact management that can sync with my PC (either online or direct to my PC)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

First off....its Android....Droid is Verizon's brand name for Android (Can't stand Verizon lol).

On to the issue:
Do you use the groups option? You can put all your contacts in groups and can just view the groups that way. All the contacts and groups will auto sync with GMail automatically. Also if you want to us Outlook then you should be able to use HTC Sync software for that.

There may be other applications on the market you could search for. I myself use the groups and like it a lot so have never had a need to find an alternate solution.

If your not sure how to set up groups let me know and I will post the directions for using them.

I searched for quite awhile for settings for this and do not see any. Just curious did you load up an app called auto answer or something similar? Sounds like an app has taken over your calls. I will keep searching though.

Sorry for the late reply. I do not have any auto answering apps on my phone. Sometimes it happens to my husband's phone but mostly to my phone. I called customer service but they didn't know why this was happening either. ;_; I will take my phone in and see if I can get a new one. Thank you for trying though. I searched for a while and couldn't find anything about this on the internet. So I thought I'd ask. Thanks again ^_^

I have a question, I'm a noob & I recently got my EVO I wanted to add mp3 files to my SD card but I can't locate it when I sync with my PC (Disk drive mode) I tried the drag n drop method into a music folder I created, but it turns out I added the files to to my device memory instead. Coming from windows mobile there was a icon for a memory card so I just need to know of all the folders that show up when I connect my phone, which one is the SD card folder? if there is already instructions please point me in the right direction as this is my 1st time using android OS as well...Thanks in advance!

The instructions are on the very first post and is the very first tip:
Here they are as well:
A. Adding Ringtones, Alarms, and Notifications to EVO (Thanks Companyman!!!!):
1. On your SD card make a folder called Media (if it's already there skip step)
2. In the media folder make a folder called audio
3. In the audio folder make a folder called "ringtones", "alarms", and "notifications"
4. Put any ringtones that you want in these folders.

Welcome to the forums....

Water can be a very evil thing. I am afraid I don't have much to offer you accept maybe try to get it replaced if you have insurance on it. I also don't have much knowledge of the G1 either. So all I can really do is sympathize with ya and wish you the best of luck.

Thanks SirSlayer, I saw the 1st post, but where I had trouble was identifying which file was the sd card, when I usb sync in disk drive mode different folders pop up but none say SD or SD Card so I don't wanna store my music in the main memory by accident again I used astro file mgr & the sdcard file showed up but when I opened it the same folders showed up so I didn't know how yo use it, I understand I may sound frustrated & seem annoying I just want to know what the file is called so I know how to locate it to make new media files Thanks again

When you connect via USB you can only see your SD Card files. So all the files on your phone are safe. When you build the file structure like was stated in the first post you will see the notifications, ringtones, and alarms when you select those categories when picking one of them.

After upgrade to 2.2 I am experiencing Calendar sync issues...again, from Outlook...any suggestions?

Thx,

Smo

Welcome to the forums.

I am also using outlook but have not experienced a syncing issue with it. What exactly is it doing? Does it try to sync and not sync? does it just spin? what are your sync settings set too? To check this from the main menu select menu/settings/Accounts and Sync. then select Exchange ActiveSync. Make sure calendar is selected.

If it is selected try this:
Go into the calendar app.
Click on Menu/More/Calendars...Make sure Exchange is selected.

Now this is assuming that you are using outlook with exchange.

Let me know if this helps.

If you want to get your custom ringtones to show up in your ringtones list, do the following:

1. On your SD card make a folder called Media (if it's already there skip step)
2. In the media folder make a folder called audio
3. In the audio folder make a folder called ringtones
4. Put any ringtones that you want in this folder

Now when you go to select ringtones on your evo your custom ringtones should show up in the list.

You can also use Astro File Mgr. Just long press the MP3 and select Music Options (last item on the file option list) and then choose to use as a ringtone.

Yep this is true. That setup that is explained is so that it will show up in the system default when you choose ringtone, notifications, or alarms. If you use Handcent it will also allow you to have more options as well.

The way I described does this for Ringtones. I long pressed on an MP3 on the SD card and chose Music Options and then Set as Ringtone. Then when you go in under Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone it is listed there along with the other pre-loaded ringtones. Even if you change to another ringtone, the one you saved will still show up on the list so you can re-choose it. I have added several ringtone that way and they all show up.
They do not however show up on the list of Notifications though (and I haven't checked, but assume they won't be there for Alarms) but for Ringtones, all's good.

As a business user of the evo there is only one app I have found that really works well is Contact Search+ in the market. Worth every penny! Searching 600+ contacts (by Company, as well as every other contact field, and notes!) Is an absolute breeze.

Thanks Mike for stepping up!!!! I might check out that app too.

Hello All

Succesfully started FryeO Android on my TMO HTC HD2. Please help me on the following:

1. When i reply all thru my exchange, getting a copy into my inbox. How to stop that?
2. I was a blackberry user. In that using their laptop version of their communication manager setup a rule for emails (based on either by sender or subject/body contents) and mark them as high priority and sync it with device. On the handset, on the ring profiles, specify what ring tone to play for HIGH PRIORITY items. This feature helped me to if I get high priority application support tickets. Can this feature available on Android handsets, if so what type of app/settings I have to make.

Appreciate help

1. What do you mean by this? Your getting a copy to your inbox on your computer and Phone? or in two places on your phone?

2. As far as I know there is no way to set a high priority ring for email in android. I think its a great idea though. You may want to suggest that to Google. I don't have a clue were you would send such a request.

Thank you for quick response.

What I meant for 1 was:

Let's say got an email which has multiple "TO" addressess and when I do REPLY ALL, I don't want my response to be sent to me. When I see the address list on "REPLY ALL" my email address also exists. I belive there is a way where you tell EXCHAGE what's my email address was (even though that was part of my signon), I know where to enter my email ID in WIN Mobile devices, don't know where in Android device.

Check under your Email Settings, you may have "Always BCC Me" set whcih will send you a copy of anything you send.

Ok what's the best program out there to tell you what program is draining your battery the most. All of a sudden here lately my battery is drainign so fast and I've done all the tips and tricks. This am I woke up and it was off just from sitting on my night stand for 7 hour and it was at 98% when I went to bed. I play word feud all the time. I got this push to talk app. And I got this wimax notifier awhile back wonder if thats doing it. I had Juice Plotter and just got Juice something else and deleted them both. I have Y5 Battery Saver which I just disabled thinking maybe it had something to do with it. I don't know. I have system panel and every since 2.2 I end stuff and it comes back. And I also have been seeing under running apps google messages or something like that which maybe google talk but when I force it I see it back in there later on. I have Android Systems and Quick settings and spare parts but maybe there's something else I need. My battery has been draining much worse here lately and I don't know what from. I got Angry Birds awhile back. Just wondering what else I got recently oh Good Morning alarm which I like. And when I snooze it several times I also notice my battery drain more but it may have been draining worse before that app I can't remember. But any help would be appreciated. I would hate to reset my phone and start over but my battery was never this bad. I followed these tips one night and it drained 1% an hour then all of a sudden last night at 98% I'm turned off in the am from a dead battery. Something is not right! Thanks, Rose

Damn, I don't know you have a lot going on there. Some of those Apps I just never use, especially spare parts. I have used astro file manager in the past, they have a process manager tool in it that you can see what is using the cpu. I haven't needed it though for along time. I do know that killing apps can make it were you will chew up battery because there may be other apps that were dependent on the one you closed. You could also check so see if Google Voice is logged in. I always make sure the auto login is off because that one will drain the battery quite a bit as well. Other then that you may need to start removing apps one at a time in reverse order you loaded them, test out the battery, until you find the app thats causing the issues (Factory reset might be faster though ;) )

Sorry if this wasn't much help, its just when you have so much going on it can get rough.

There is a free image editor call Gimp. Its a lot like photoshop. You can resize the image with that app.

Download Here

Just copy the images to your computer resize and put em back on the phone.
