Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

I know i hate to factory reset. Someone said they use Juice Defender to tell what's using the battery and I had it but didn't really use it or know how. But I do go to my program system and it lets you end task and since I've had Froyo 2.2 some stuff shows back up maybe I shouldn't do that. But under menu settings and running apps I see Google Messaging running is that Google Talk. I force close it and sometimes see it running again. I oppened Talk and hit log off I am sure the other day but I'll try it again. I just don't know what is draining me so bad and this am after less then an horu I went from a 100 to 81%.. For now I have 3 extra batteries so I am just going to deal with it until I can figure out what it is. But thanks for replying.

It says since last unplugged for 31 minutes 53% is Android and 21% is display and 15% is cell standby and 11% wifi. My phone like i said went from a 100 to 81% really fast in like 45 minutes.. What should brightness be on? Mine was all the way up and I usually keepit about 1/2 way and used to keep it on auto at one point. I don't know how it got all the way up..

Sorry if this wasn't much help, its just when you have so much going on it can get rough.[/QUOTE]

For syncing contact groups, the above advice didn't help me. Either the options weren't present in the same menus, or the entire menu was missing (DroidX, 2.2). The contacts themselves were syncing; I could add dots or dashes to a phone number and see the results transfer bidirectionally.

To synchronize your Gmail contacts to your Android phone, try "Contact Group Manager" by DWP. It'll push to and pull from your Gmail contact groups.

It's the first result when you search the market for "contact groups," and as of 2010-10-17 it's free.

I'd have paid a couple bucks for it a week ago, and knowing today how well it works and how much heartache it could have saved, I'd have paid TEN bucks a week ago.

DroidX, Android 2.2

update:
Adding 50 contacts to a new group was actually faster through CGM on my phone than through Gmail on my desktop.

Yea being you have a different phone on a different carrier there could be some differences. This forum is for the Sprint Evo mostly though I have tried to help others out.

Sucks the info didn't help ya much.

Yikes, I'm a cross-poster. And a n00b. Sorry.

I caught one instance of search defaulting me back to the global forum, but I guess I missed this one.
:(

Well, hope it helped someone anyway.

Well if you do get stuck with stuff I can try to help ya.....but yea noob!!....lol you said it first!!!! hehe...thanks for the info...your not the first cross poster in here. Pretty popular thread me thinks.

Oh I feel special too I just gave you your first thanks!!! lol

OK I just found out and I don't know how this happened but my screen timeout somehow got set from one minute to ten. I have no idea how but would that have something to do with my battery all of a sudden draining quicker than normal. Im hoping that was my problem.

lol OH YEA!!!! that will do it for sure!!!....even going from 1 to 2 min would make a big difference. You should have normal battery life now. Someone must have changed it, or you changed it and forgot. I have done that.

OMG! I hope that's it. Thanks :) I remember now when I'm driving sometimes I leave someone a voice recorded message through text and my screen kept cutting off while I was talking so I changed it and forgot to change it back. Boy I hope that was my problem.

Oh I am betting my evo that was the problem......(just kidding, I would never bet my evo) lol:D

there is a free image editor call gimp. Its a lot like photoshop. You can resize the image with that app.

download here

just copy the images to your computer resize and put em back on the phone.

Hmmmm, Just to make sure the file you downloaded was named gimp-2.6.11-i686-setup.exe????? It should have ran you through an entire installation. I am wondering if somehow the wrong file was downloaded. The link from the post should have pointed you to a link to download "Download GIMP 2.6.11". I would make sure you got the right file then try again.

ok u were right..i did download the wrong one..now i got it! one more question...what do i go to on the program to change the resolution or the size..to 960 by 800 i believe it was right?

Once you have the image open in Gimp you goto Image/Scale Image. There you will see the width and Height. Thats were you want to set the image size. 960 x 800 is the correct size wallpaper on the evo.

it wont let me set it that way. when i put it to 960..the width says 1000 something...and when i change that...the height changes to 500 somethin. ? geez...

When you change one setting the other setting will stay the same as too keep image scale correct. If you want to change the scaling different then the original you have to remove the link next to the input fields. If you click on the little chain link you will show it as broken and then then modify the width and height to your desired amount.

You know, You could put the whole picture on the phone. Then when you select it as a wall paper there are options to set the viewable part of the image with the green box that shows up. You can adjust it to fit what you want as the wallpaper. You will cut out some of the image but at least you wouldn't distort the image.

Yea I fit my whole pic in the green box...and its like stretched on my home page. in order to see the rest of it I have to go to the left or right where widgets can be put. Um that's why it looks unclear I guess. It's confusing. My pic is the correct resolution or size for the evo. Unless that's how backgrounds is supposed to be on the evo. I got a wallpaper app and when i set them to my background their super clear..Dk why my photos come out distorted....when I just view my photo b4 I set it to my wallpaper its clear.

Put the picture on your phone without changes with gimp. Add them as a wallpaper and use as much of the green box as possible. See if that will clear them up some. You could also make them double the resolution thats needed and that might also make them clear. When you go to add them as wallpaper it could clear them up.

yea thats the first thing i did before i posted anything on this site on needing help with my wallpaper. my picture[without editing from gimp] was too big to fit wut i wanted in the green box. which is why i was trying to fit the whole pic on just the home screen..not having to slide to the side to see the rest of it..u get me. when i go to my photo gallery and view the pic..it fills the screen perfectly...very clear! thats how i want it. but i doubt theres a way to get it that way.

OK well here is another option for you to get what you want.

First though in HTC Sense UI I don't think there is a setting to use the pic on a single screen.

Now, there is an alternate home launcher called LauncherPro that will let you do what you want. You can set the wallpaper to not stretch. You can download it free from the market and can use it without loosing sense. If you do this I would also recommend an app called home switcher so that you can go back from one to the other.

EDIT: I just tried this myself and it worked great!!!! So if you desire to go this way let me know and I will give you instruction on how to set it right.

EDIT #2: I looked at the image you are wanting to use and yea there is not much you can do using the sense UI. I can tell you that if you use the LauncherPro you will be able to do what you want. The problem with using launcher pro is that you will loose the sense widgets. So there are some trade offs. I use both depending on how I feel in a given day lol. Use LauncherPro when in my car for the rosie rotate. And Sense UI when I am home.
