Ok, was hoping there was another way. I just find it odd that apps are starting on their own. I didn't want to remove the sprint ones in case I ever wanted to use them, but this auto start and drain battery is frustrating me.

Well keep in mind that just because the app is showing up in a process manager doesn't mean the app is "Running", its in an idle state waiting to be used. In most cases the CPU usage is 0. Android uses this for quick access to these apps. If memory becomes an issue Android will close it automatically when needed.

not sure about the calendar though.
