Well keep in mind that just because the app is showing up in a process manager doesn't mean the app is "Running", its in an idle state waiting to be used. In most cases the CPU usage is 0. Android uses this for quick access to these apps. If memory becomes an issue Android will close it automatically when needed.

The camera puts the images under the DCIM/100MEDIA directory on the SD card. You don't have to keep them there. I created a "Photos" directory on the card and then subdirectories under that. I did this with my PC but you can also use Astro as mentioned by SirSlayer. You can also move the pictures out of the default directory into your own and when you launch the gallery, it looks throughout the card for them and shows the folders as Albums. It's easier to do connected to a PC but can be done with Astro or another file manager.

When programs create image folders, they also show up as albums. For instance, I've used ShootMe for screen shots. I can see the folder it created in the gallery.

So I downloaded Astro.. but just not getting it. I navigated to DCIM/100MEDIA. I saw all my pics. I then created a couple of folders called Pets, etc...

When I went into "Gallery", I don't see those folders I made. I also tried copying and pasting a photo into one of the folders I made, but then in Gallery it just looked like I had the picture there twice.

Help! :)

Another question..

Calendar Reminders. When I hit "snooze" to a reminder, it just snoozed. It did not give me any options as to how long.

Any way to change this?

Don't use the 100MEDIA folder to create them. I just tried what you said and it doesn't work there. I moved the folder outside the DCIM folder and the new folder showed up in the gallery. Mine are all in one folder called images/ then all the different folders from there.

Yea i think its 5 min. I am looking for snooze options and have not found any. Will let you know if it see it.

Found the settings for snoozing in the alarm set up. So you can adjust that one ;) not sure about the calendar though.

I am testing something here. I am wondering if the alarm setting will hold true with the calendar setting. Got a test running now...will let you know the results soon. :cool:

I had the Pre for a week and it did the same thing. Wonder why people don't think of these things! :)

Depending on the task, I like to set a day before.. for example, tomorrow I'm giving blood, but I set the reminder on outlook to the day before. This helps me get ready for the appointment (since I have to drink TONS of water). So when I snooze, I would like to set it for 15 minutes before the appt.. or 8 hours later, or whatever.

The only other way to get around this is to go to the item and change the reminder time. Which, I guess, isn't so bad considering these day reminders are only here and there.

Ahhhh ok you want it at the time the alarm goes off....I got ya. Yea I think the only way is to change it at the event level. :(

I just noticed something......I looks like you can set more then one reminder on a task. Open up the event in the calendar. Then click menu and add reminder. After you add the reminder you can change the minutes on it.....You could pre set your snoozing. hehe
 
Is it possible to have a notification sound while on the phone. I remember on my blackberry it would beep in my ear when I was on the phone.

Alrighty.. after playing around with Astro and doing as you mentioned, I've decided to go the PC route HAHA.. wow, not easy moving photos. I finally gave in and connect it to the computer for the first time and sooooo much easier as you mentioned earlier.

I guess I will just plan on hooking up ever so often to organize.

Hello, I'm new have some questions regarding my Evo (first android)

How do I save my MMS pics to a different folder? It's only letting me save to "All downloads" and I dont want to save it there, how can I save it to a folder that I have created on my SDcard?

EDIT: One more thing

In the Favorites widget, a lot of my friends head or face is cutoff, why is that? How come it doesnt center there picture based on the size of the frame? I ask this because I came from an HD2 which has the same favorites setup and it center the pic.

1. I don't think you can change the download folder. But what you could do is install Astro File Manager and use that to move the picture once its downloaded to the folder of your choice.

2. Are they Google Contacts? Were did you add the pictures from? I know for Google contacts you can add the pictures using the web browser on your computer through GMail and there will be a box you can use to show what part of the image is shown. I have seen that same box when setting wallpapers on the phone. My suggestion would be to maybe re-set the images for your contacts through Google GMAIL on your computer because its easier to see and resize to what you want displayed.

Yep a great feature I remember from the BB days. Look into the "Locale" app and you can handle this with different action and profile settings. It can turn on and off settings (such as wifi, sounds, vibrate, etc) and can do this based of off priority settings, location, calendar events, etc. It has extra plug-ins being developed all of the time to further its usefulness. I have just started to use this and am really liking it (had a similar thing on Win-Mo devices a long time ago and have missed it sorely on the iDevice, now it is available on the Android). I am in no way associated with this developer or app other than as a user, and there are others that do the same thing, this one just got the better of the reviews.
So no "real" effect on battery life either (that I can tell, other than any other app).
 
So I am having all sorts of issues with notifications. I have my accounts set to refresh at certain intervals like Exchange email as it arrives, Yahoo every hour etc.

However nothing seems to sync until I actually open the mail program.

I do have auto sync turned off though. If I turn it on won't it just sync everything whenever it wants?

I believe you need to have auto sync turned on in order for the rules to apply. Mine is turned on and I get my exchange mail as it arrives and yahoo every hour. So I would try turning it on.

Another question for you that might also cause issues is do you have a task killer installed? Reason I ask is I have heard a lot of people have issues with notifications with it even just installed.
 
nope no task killer, that's the first thing I read on here when I joined. Just letting Android do it's thing :-)

Oh and also why is it that I have gmail set to sync but none of my contacts on my phone are showing up under contacts when I log into gmail?

Sweet.

Did you try turning on the auto sync?

For the Contacts make sure that in the Accounts & Sync settings for Google that sync contacts is checked.

Not sure if this has been answered but...

When you are in your calendar, hit the menu button, go to more, go to calendars, and uncheck facebook.

I think that will work to get rid of the facebook birthdays.

I had two questions:

1. I am using exchange & Touchdown on my Evo (excellent program btw). I have my exchange for my personal account & I have my work email setup to forward/redirect to my exchange account, exchange rules pop it into a 'work' subfolder. This allows all my data to be viewed in exchange.

In MS Outlook, I have my work email setup to send only & not recieve (this allows me to have my work emails sent & then stored in my exchange sent items). Is there a way to add this functionality to my Evo?

Meaning, is there a way to not check my work email but have it set to send from that address?

2. On the top notification area, I see notifications, I know I can clear that by hitting, menu / notifications. However, when I put my finger on that area, the notifications disapear, & another bar comes down, does nothing, when I move my hand, the notificiations come back.

What does that do when you press it (aside from nothing)?

Number 1 I have no clue. I don't use Touchdown.

Number 2 - When you press the bar.....bull down all the way, this will show all the alerts and stuff, you can then click on the alerts or push the clear button. ;) welcome to android.

So in terms of email, can i just setup a secondary email account & have it not check email?
