Root Tired of Waiting for GB root/rom discussion

Avoided the whole Windows 7 64 bit dilemma, and did the unrrevoked3 option to root from my office xp machine.

Will try flashing a ROM tonight.

Once you get ROM Manager from the market there is an option in there to backup your current ROM. I do it at least once a week, sometimes more if I get to making bigger changes. Yes, it's then stored on your sd card in a folder called clockworkmod

And once the nandroid is made go to the sd card through something like Astro and make sure it's there. Only once did I not do this - and guess what - it wasn't there!!!

So I got the Clockworkmod Recovery reflashed, Titanium Back up done, and now my phone is doing the backup via Clockworkmod (which I assume is Nandroid).

I just realized though, as it is backing up, I have a lot of music on the phone's internal memory itself. Is it going to try to back that up in this process? I only have a 4GB SD card in there, and won't be nearly enough space to back music up as well. And I don't need to at all, but just realized it might as it was backing up. I should have realized before this and removed the music from the phone.

[edit] I am probably over reacting and it's going to finish or run out of space before anyone replies :D [/edit]

I can't honestly answer since I have a big card but I'm sure it will tell you if there's a problem

clockwork will not tell you if there is not enough space for the backup (you'll find out when you try to restore to it). But clockwork does not back up the internal storage anyway.

As it was backing up, it just had a little hat with an arrow around it. No movements, changes, nothing. Stayed there for half and hour before I started reading it shouldn't take that long, so I think I went into the wrong place. I then hit one button, took me back to the black screen with options and restarted phone. No "Nandroid" related file was created. A Clockwork folder was made, but was only 3MB.

After Volume Down Power, the white screen comes up. Then I went to recovery, which went to ClockworkMod. I then selected backup from there. Is that right, or am I supposed to select it from the first screen, the white one? I seem to recall something there as well.

I'd check, but am currently pushing all music, pictures, etc over now just to be safe.

Again, thanks so much for everyone's quick help.

WOW.....its like a whole new phone!

BTW- I went with the Nils Business Gingersense 3.0.

Thanks all!

Welcome to root! I thought (and still think) the exact same thing flashing to gingersense. Keep an eye out for battery life especially when you're in marginal 3g. reception areas.

No apologies. Better that you ask rather than make a very expensive paperweight

Got the ROM flashed and everything went well during the install. Runs pretty smoothly. Ended up going with Nils Gingersense 3.0 as well. Thanks for all the help throughout the process.

The only immediate issue I am having is with a Fancy Widget widget. It seems that icons and widgets are compacted by default in the OS. Because of that, the bottom tiny bit of the widget is cut off, which includes a description of the weather. Anyone else ever run into that with this ROM, or if there is a way to customize widget and icon settings? I had a look through the menu but didn't immediately see anything.

The only way I know to truly customize them is to run a secondary launcher that allows for resizing and making the screen grid different sizes. Those usually eat battery though.
I'm sure others here know more about Fancy Widgets though.

After running Nils Gingersense for several days, I am ready to make a move elsewhere. I haven't been able to go 12 hours without some kind of freezing up, battery pull, or random reset of the device.

When I flash a another new ROM, do I need back it up again with Nandroid, or is the original one I made last week (of the stock OS) still going to be useful if everything falls apart?

Also, if I have moved a few apps to the SD card, I can delete those files from the SD card if I am not worried about progress made in any games, app, etc since I last backed up, right? It's only been a few days since I backed up with Titanium, so that file should still be good as of the day I backed up.

No you do not need to redo the back up

Yep yep then can go away

Now playing with CM7...may have preferred Business Gingersense.

-later-

Decided to reflash Business Gingersense and messed it up, got stuck at the white HTC incredible screen.

Managed to boot up and restore from my Froyo backup (nice to know its still there) and then restored from my Business Gingersense backup. I think I'll wait until next week to try Kingdom.

A three mod day was quite enough.

Yeah I can see that as a pain and that's why root is awesome cuz you can never really break your phone lol
