Root Titanium Backup 101

I'm not sure what the name of the file would be, but I'm pretty sure home screens are backed up when you do batch backup of apps + system data. I use Launcher Pro and it doesn't restore the widgets - in their place it says "problem loading widget" but at least you can remember what went there. All your launcher preferences are restored.
 
Okay I have tried to do a back up and every time there a problem with busy box I have uninstalled and reinstalled still a problem with busybox what up.
 
Today, my Titanium Backup app could not get Superuser permissions, which is weird because I use it all the time. I clicked on the Problems? button to redownload BusyBox and all is good now.

Did you try downloading and installing BusyBox from the Problems? link in the bottom right of the Titanium Backup app window to reinstall a version of BusyBox that TB will work with?

Of all the root apps, TB is by far the most finicky with SU permissions and BusyBox. :(

ahhh Thanks B! I'm in the same boat, getting the "problem loading widgets". I thought you had found a way to get all of the widgets restored automatically. I'd love to see that as a feature. I hate restoring widgets every time I flash a ROM.
 
Ok new issue for all the wise ones.... Have fission 2.5.7 rom and went and checked the overclock option and the program menu hot fix using the ROM manager. well for whatever reason it boot looped..grrrr So reset everything and went to my good ol' trusty TB and when I select restore it makes phone reboot. I have the most up to date version of Busybox and TB ....HELP
 
When you say you reset everything, does that mean you restored a backup, or you just reset the phone that had problems with the overclocking? The overclocking might still be causing problems.

Restore a previous backup to make sure your device isn't being overclocked to some incompatible settings and try restoring with TB again.
 
ok so I did a complete wipe and reinstalled fission then went to TB and would crash back to ROM boot animation. Then tonight tried it again and it stated "ERROR - parsing" dont remember exactly. The only thing that saved me was appbrain just took forever to reinstall all my goodies
 
Try uninstalling and reinstalling TB. Don't worry, you won't lose your backups as long as you don't delete the folder on your sd card.
 
Has anyone tried the Update.zip creator in Titanium Backup? What are the implications of the update.zip file being "unsigned" if any? Also, what about System versus user installation?
 
Installed a rom, now i am using titanium backup and when you restore your apps Do you have to press "install" and then "done" for each app? if so that's annoying...
 
Tap the menu button and you'll find batch operations you can do, but exercise care there. You don't want to restore system apps for a custom rom.
 
I, too, am having issues with TB.

When I start it up, it told me it couldn't get Root privileges and/or BusyBox wasn't installed, so I tried to install BusyBox from the Market. It won't install and claims that it can't get rights from Superuser.

So, despite the fact that I already have a Superuser Permissions app on the phone from when I rooted it, I tried to install a new copy from the Market. This fails and gives an "unsigned package" error.

After investigating this issue, I found a download on the market called "superuser update fix". This installs, but won't run, claiming it needs BusyBox to be installed. So, now, I can't install either BusyBox OR the Superuser update fix because both claim to need the other to install.

I also found an ADB script on the Superuser dev page, but whenever I try to execute, ADB says "permission denied".

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this? In other guides, it just says something to the effect of "use Ti backup to restore all apps and then restart the phone" and makes it sound like it's a 1 click operation. It's a HUGE pain to have to click install and done for each app when you have 200 or so apps to do. I'm already using the batch to do it as recommended above, but it still makes you click the buttons for each app like you're installing it from the market.

If you go under Batch mode, you can restore them all with one click.

I'm currently in the middle of restoring right now. I hit MENU, then BATCH, then RESTORE ALL APPS + SYSTEM DATA (or whatever it says, can't remember word for word). Then it goes through the process saying "Restoring App 1/230" and for each app it then opens the package installer and says "Do you wan tto install this application?" with the associated permissions, and I have to press Install or Cancel. After it installs, it then says Open or Done. So for each app, I have to hit Install, then hit Done, then it goes back to Titanium to restore the next app.

I'm not sure what is going on there. Maybe someone else knows. I've never had that happen, it always proceeds automagically thru them all until complete.
 
Did you buy the unlock code to register it, or are you using just the free version? I bought my unlock code so long ago I can't remember for sure, but I think that if you use the free version the batches will not auto restore and you have to install each application like this.

You know, that just may be it... I'm on the free version. Hadn't needed any of the features of Pro until now, so it looks like I may be making a purchase. Thanks!

I can confirm that the purchased version unlocks the ability to automate batch restores. It also unlocks bloat freezing.
