Might just wanna cancel the operation and restart. Check the sticky in the root forum for some Rom loading and Titanium tips.

ok i understand how to flash roms. what is nandroid backup? and also what does flashing a rom exactly do, IE, does it wipe your phone clean and reinstall everyything what else do i need to do before flashing. how do i delete the bloatware and also what the heck is a kernel!!! thanks for helping out a root noob!.

A nandroid backup is a full backup of everything on the phone. It is like taking a picture and if you do a full restore it will return your phone to exactly how it was, if everything works correctly.

Flashing a ROM is kind of like changing to a new OS. Depending on the ROM you normally should wipe your phone before you try and flash it but even if you don't, back up everything before you do it just in case.

As long as everything is backed up, and everything your going to try and flash is compatible with what your phone is running, you should be fine.

Also, most ROMs don't have bloatware and that is one of the features of them, but if they do I'm not sure exactly how to tell you to delete it sorry. And finally, from what I understand, a kernel is some code that controls how the OS controls the phone's hardware. For example if you want to overclock the CPU, you would do this through the kernel. Hope this helped.

Can you point me in the direction of a stable Rom to try out. Thanks for the help also. I appreciate it.

I'd like to try that 2.3 Rom u linked. I'm still trying to understand all the terminology also. I really appreciate the help. It seems hard to find someone to answer my questions on this forum. I have read a lot but its still pretty confusing being a noob!

I would like to try that synergy Rom but I don't know how to tell if I have the right hboot and radio. Also how do you make a nandroid backup and how do you go back to the stock Rom if something gets screwed up. Also if that particular Rom gets updated how do you update the Rom. I have downloaded Rom manager and titanium backup. Thanks again for the help people!

generally your hboot and radio don't matter, but if you are a recent "rooter", you have the most up to date hboot and radio which is all you need for any recent rom.

There is guides in the root sticky on how to flash roms and how to make a nandroid.

But basically, to make a nandroid, all you do is boot into recovery, which can easily be done from rom manager. Then you select the backup and restore option. when in recovery, you use the volume keys to highlight and press down on the trackball to choose the highlighted selection.

If your selected rom is ever updated, you can install the update the same way you originally installed the rom, except you generally do not have to wipe the data (factory reset).

Installing roms is best done directly from recovery. You should always wipe data, wipe cache, and go into the advanced section and wipe dalvik (a few times each). Some roms will also have further instructions on their forum download page over at xda forums. Then you choose the option to install file from .zip

You will want to also read into the root sticky on the titanium backup tips.

I did read the stickies and they did help. I just felt like I needed another explanation on some things. I'm just nervous about screwing things up and bricking my phone so I'm being overly cautious. Thanks again.
