The big issue here isn't really TB's Fault.The problem here is space. If your on a Sense ROM that is already pretty big and you try to restore your apps you find that TB will freeze. This is because TB is trying to add more to the system than is allowed.
The first work around has already been suggested restore in smaller increments. This is fine as long as your not an app whore like me or ocean. My 100 + apps would keep me restoring for quite a bit.
The Second is to go and start out by removing the apps and widgets that you know you will never use, want, or need. Reboot and clear cache and dalvic. Reboot again and check the amount of internal memory that TB is showing you have left. This is the "Safety Net" so restore less than this amount and then reboot and again clear cache and dalvic. When you reboot to TB you should see that your a2sd ext part is bigger and your internal memory is cleared again allowing for the rest of your apps to be installed. YOU MUST HAVE A ROM THAT SUPPORTS A2SD.

I am not aware of the name of it but there are a few apps that will back it up and restore it.
Yes, such as MyBackUp Root, Super Backup etc etc but neither of them backup/restore more than 500 entries

I've always bulk restored all my apps with Titanium (like 50 or 60 at a time) and I've never had any issues.

The best I could find is
data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
There are 3 files in the databases folder I'm assuming the other two are also part of the db. Probably just need to save the whole folder. In the contacts2.db there is a record for calls That is the closes thing I have found to the call log.
I got Contacts.db from Nandroid Browser and pasted and replaced with Root Explorer at the needed location already. Good thing, All the logs do appear instantly. Bad news- As soon as the device reboots the log is totally empty. The replaced file is not in the place anymore. So replacing isn't a go. There must be a way to keep the file intact after a Reboot anyway, still i am trying to find it.....
I was having the same issue with Titanium locking up restoring apps until I moved the dalvik cache to the sd-ext partition. I tried 3 times with Titanium to restore 145 apps and had freezing problems. Downloaded A2SDGUI, moved the dalvik, the phone rebooted and I went into Titanium and restored the other 130 without a problem. Had the same issue on my wife's phone that was fixed by moving the dc also.
