'To avoid overheating maximum screen brightness has been reduced'

The above is the message I'm getting when I go to display brightness settings. The maximum I can now set my screen brightness to is just past half way. Rebooting did not take the message away. I want to decide my screen brightness thank you very much! Can anyone help me get rid of this? I think my battery has been draining quicker than usual too recently so may be related. I'm rooted by the way...

I've never seen that message, and my own handset has got very warm on occasion while testing. It might be ROM-specific, so I'm moving this to ATR as you're running a custom ROM.

Here's a screen shot if that helps anyone...

I have only ever flashed a kernel once, that was the Speedmod kernel that doesn't support adjusting voltage or clocking so these have never been touched...

I've been on Checkrom and the speedmod kernel for over a month now and this message just appeared today...

So annoying by the way.

I had this message once. Navigating in a hot car and charging to.
I switched the display off and pointed the air-vent to the phone. After cooling down the problem was gone...

Thanks all. It's gone now. Strange, my phone has been much hotter and never noticed it before but then maybe I'd never been in display settings when the phone was hot before...

There are some google hits for that same message, nothing conclusive though. Probably some kind of precautionary measure similar to PC motherboard shutdowns when things get a little too heated for monitoring software.
