Help To catch a snooper

Mefis

Lurker
Hello Android Forums,
Today I have an unusual question for you . I have a Motorola play with the latest Android software. The phone is protected with pin lock. The other day I leave my phone next to my girlfriend while I visit the toilet. I spend at least 5 minutes away. When I can back, I pick up my phone to unlock it, and it does not ask me for my pin but simply opens up. So I am convinced that my gf has been snooping around my phone while I was away: she knows my pin. There was only the two of us in the house.

I confronted her and she firmly denies. My question is: is it possible that I am wrong? That the phone was unlocked for some other reason?
Thanks,

Mefis

Time out is 5 seconds after sleep, "except when kept unlocked by smart lock." I have no trusted places nor devices though.

May I bump this to see if anyone can help me? As you can imagine this is quite important to me, I don't want to accuse/think my gf to be an outright liar if there is a chance I am mistaken...

The "power button automatically locks" is enabled.

I won't change my PIN, I got nothing to hide from her. It just bothers me that she keeps denying. But what if she's not lying? I need to know for sure...

The phone was left unattended in the kitchen for a few hours while we were both in another room. Then she went first in the kitchen and I joined her a few minutes later, picked up my phone and it was unlocked...

The only thing that I can imagine is that one of the apps prevented locking. But I only have the usual apps, and I don't think that's the case.

If "Power button automatically locks" is enabled, and there is no Smart Lock involved, then I'm out of ideas. All I can suggest is that you test it out on your own; lock it with the Power button, leave it for a few minutes then return and see if it's locked or not.

Btw, the "change PIN" suggestion was merely to eliminate your g/f as a variable.

If "Power button automatically locks" is enabled and there is no Smart Lock enabled then I'm out of ideas. sorry. Al I can suggest is that you test it yourself in isolation i.e. lock the device, wait a few minutes then check if it unlocks without the PIN.

Btw, the "change PIN" advice was merely to eliminate one variable i.e. your g/f from the equation.

If you really want to know, change the PIN, then install the app LockWatch or similar, which will use the front facing cam to snap a pic of the offender who tries entering the wrong PIN.

Thanks to both. I thought of the second suggestion. Even better would be an app or a way to log all entries. This way I could leave my pin unchanged, and simply check if there are any unlocks that are not done by me. Do you know of an app or a way to do this? I Googled but couldn't find anything.

You could check screen on time in battery usage?

Check it before you leave the room, lock it instantly, leave the room and check it again when you return. If it increases by anything substantial, you'd know she's been going through your phone?
