Root To devs: why is the v so versitle

Because it's cheap to buy and maintain, so we aren't nearly as afraid of bricking it. ;)

If I had to purchase it for over $200 and was tied into a two year contract, I would be very hesitant to do anything with it that would have the potential to brick it.

That being said, there are other phones with more ROMs than our little OVs, so this may all be a moot point. :p

im just sayong i had a Boost Prevail 1 rom Shabbymod was a 2.2 rom then to the OV my first time around then te metro Samsung admire No roms Borked Root no recovery nada and the v has maby 20 roms all diffrent versions of android when the optM or the OPT t/s/u hot nothing we are boming

PS jerry your cheap we all know why your here ;)

Yeah, for 50 bucks brand new with cheap service and no contract... There is no anything better to play with...

With it being a variant of the Optimus S which was available before the V, that has helped alot with development. Originally when GB was made for the V it was an Optimus S port (Zelfie's I believe). Kinda like quattrimus CM9 right now is a port from Drew's Optimus S CM9.

At least I think it's a port from the Optimus S CM9 ROM. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I joined this forum in May of last year, so if you think about it, thats almost of full year of development that's gone into making the ROMs for the V what they are today.

It's called captive audience.
It was a cheap, very nice phone for prepaid in a see of junk, and it was similar enough to a few other phones that devs could take advantage of their work.

At the time, VM was pretty alone in offering something like this on pre-paid. With VM being alone in the pre-paid sector with a phone like this, it meant we had devs who would be willing to work on it. On post-paid, devs had more choices and picked the better phones. While we benefitted from the Optimus S, it would have happened regardless simply because of knowledgeable people stuck on VM with few other options. I highly doubt VM will see the kind of development again on any phones unless major changes take place.

You have to understand that the OV was a landmark in prepaid phones, it was a very good, cheap, Android phone, with very cheap service. It will take something like that again top repeat, however, these days you have everyone and their cousin breathing down VM's neck, and often with better phones and service.

Actually, that helped us, but is not the reason for any of this. There are two other Optimus Variations almost identical and they have almost NOTHING. There is nothing to stop Optimus T or Optimus U users from doing similar, they just haven't.

Even the Wildfire, which is available on several services hasn't taken off at all.

Drew pointed us in the right direction, but tdm pulled in lupohirp's changes to get things going, and those are for the p500. ;)
