To keep or not??

OK, so I really love how this phone feels in my hand and just the look. However, I have been having problems with the screen going black and the phone freezing up. It's so annoying! My 30 days with best buy will be up Feb 13th and I just dont know if I should keep it or not. I really dont care about 4g so being on 3g is not a big deal to me, but I keep hearing talk about the lack of updates with this phone so it kinda makes me want to shy away from it.

But, verizon really has no phones I like right now. What would you do?
 
For starters...maybe you should get a replacement and see if the new one is better. Beyond that if you really want it to be an awesome phone, rooting and flashing custom roms, kernels and themes is the way to go (IMO). I researched this phone tons before buying and I knew all its short comings. I rooted and flashed a new rom/kernel/radio on day one, so I never experienced any of the problems that most people do. Honestly, I don't even care about 2.2, thats how good it is. My phone is super fast and I have NO problems with it. It is really nice to be able to modify it the way you want. Everyone here will help if you decide to keep it(or trade for a new one) and root it, just head over to the root section! Good luck! :p
 
Ya you shouldn't be having those problems with a new device. Sounds like you got a bad device. I would take it back to get a replacement but make sure it is new one and not a refurb because they will try and give you one. You bought a new phone therefor it should be replaced with a new phone.

Get another replacement, seeing as a lot of people have bad luck as the same with you. But if you really have a strong feeling to change your phone, then go on ahead. :D Make sure you research your replacement first.

If you've done a factory data reset, and the problems persist, getting an exchange Fascinate seems like a good way to go.

Rooting this thing is also a good way to go, as mentioned by karib. ;)

But rooting will not solve true defective device issues, so again, I'd just grab another one.

I am pretty familiar with rooting I came from the hero and evo which were both rooted. I have been researching the rooting but Im just lost when it comes to this phone lol :( It seems kind of different than when I did my evo. I think I'll go back to best buy today and get a new white replacement.

Oh another question, should I not update it to the DL09 so its easier to root??

Thanks everyone I really do love this phone way more than my EVO, which was way to darn big for my small hands lol
 
I'm with you! My 30 days is up in a week ... I've had nothing but problems (the same ones you mentioned) freezing, lags, buggy apps. I love the looks of the phone but at this point I'd rather smash it with a hammer than use it :D

So what did you decide?????

I'm going to be keeping mine, I dont really want an iphone and none of the new phones coming out really excite me and the driod X is just way to ugly:p. ya know! Oh and 4g, not interested right now. Especially for the price I never got 4g on sprint where I live so I was paying extra for nothing and really I dont need anything blazing fast!! If i need to do something quicker ill just get on wifi.

I am going to root it but didnt want to until my 30 days was up, so I wouldn't have to unroot, if I changed my mind. So for sure keeping it cause I love "her" and my pink gel case she wears haha

If you decide to keep yours I would get a new replacement asap like others suggested I do, Ill be picking the new one up tonight.

Funny you said that ... I'm sitting here playing with my new one now! F'd up thing is ... the demo phone at the VZW store had the DJ09 update .. my old SF wouldn't update and this new one won't update! WTF? Am I missing something? The VZW rep told me there was a batch of 10,000 SF's known to be defective and won't update. I know NOTHING about rooting and like you didn't want to fool with it until my 30 days were up. I agree the X is boxy and ugly ... not really any other phone I'd want and I'm not a big Apple fan. Soooo guess I'm sticking with this one! Got any "rooting for dummies" tutorials you wanna point me to?

Wow I would take that one back too. The day i got mine it updated perfect!! lol I think we are looking for the same thing, if you find the root for dummies let me know lol I saw a couple ways that were stickied on the root forum so I may just try that out and hope all goes well.

Hey guys sorry to hear you both are having struggles with your SF. I know its also little comfort to say you are in the minority :(. ecc444 by all means you should return that crap-tastic one and dont leave the store till they give you one with DL09 if thats what you want.
Equally true since you both kinda were asking for the rooting stuff. There is an entire sub forum on rooting. But the single best thread is this one http://androidforums.com/fascinate-...-rooting-fascinate-regardless-os-version.html give it a read thru :)
 
UGH!!! I had to go to 2 VZW stores today because my store was out-of-stock ... took me 2.5 hours and 35 miles r/t ... a great way to spend my day off! Oh well at least it is 73 degrees and sunny here so the drive was nice! So you're getting a new phone tonight???? If you get it and it updates right away will you come back and let me know. I'm trying to ditch the Garmin GPS and use only my SF but it takes several minutes to "locate GPS" ... I'm told DJ09 fixes that. If I find a root tutorial I'll email you!

I hate you just because it's 73 degrees outside where you are. It's 23 here :p
 
Thanks Saps! The guy in the 1st VZW was really helpful but the guy in the 2nd store was a douche! If I had to deal with him any longer than I did I would have ended up pulling him across the counter :) I figured I'd just get the phone and go back to my home store ... they have always been good to me! But you're right .... no reason I shouldn't be walking out of the store without DJ09.

Am I safe in assuming ALL phones have had DJ09 pushed to them?

Unless you have genuinely bad gps hardware about 90% of SF owners found better GPS performance on the DL09 radio/modem. In your case seriously and I know its a drag but when you find store that has one just dig your heels in. Dont leave the store without an SF with DL09 and test the GPS right there before you leave. Heck test everything before you leave. No reason you should be dissatisfied :(.
I do hope things turn around for you though. Once its dialed in properly the SF can be a dream. But the fractional minority that isnt, tends to really hate this thing :o

mine did this the other day even with the new update. I had to restart my phone for it to work

Ill let you know how mine updates.

Yeah same here ... I've had to pull the battery out and it will locate GPS within seconds. Again I'm told DJ09 fixes that. It is some comfort that I'm not the only one having problems lol. Yeah, LMK. TY ;)
