Tomorrow's the Big Day

Not so big of a day. :(

That, supported by this: Official LG G3 specs and information leaked ahead of launch

Mega letdown. The G2 had over twice the app storage for users, but no sd slot. This model has much less app storage, but a sd slot that does NOTHING to add app storage.

OEs do NOT get that Kitkat has crippled devices for external app support. Launching a device now with less than 32GB (at least as a second option to customers) is pure $crew the customer.

When is Google going to get that the devs that put apps in the market are becoming constrained? Either devices offer more storage, or the apps need to get smaller.

This is going to get worse when ART becomes baseline (if it does), cause apps take up MORE space with ART than with Dalvik (like 20% more or so).

32GB is the lowest I can go on a "flagship" device these days. There's no excuse for selling a $650-700 phone with less than that, IMO.

Verizon has been good about giving 32GB storage on their phones. I think their M8 has 32GB. So I'm hoping this has 32GB and 3GB RAM. If so, then I think I'm going to go back to a more normal form factor from the Note 3.

That being said, I think their iconography is pretty bad, but that is less of an issue. If the camera is at least as good as the S5 in low light, then I don't see a reason to pass it up.

so the rumors of LG G3 being a rotten apple /pun intended :D/ turned out to be highly exaggerated :p

Well, at least ATT and Tmo have apparently stated the 3/32 version. The arrogance known as Verizon have not confirmed specs yet.

One thing I've enjoyed post-Verizon is the world of GSM. When overseas I can just pop in a new SIM card and I'm good to go (assuming you got your phone SIM unlocked -- either by the carrier or online). CDMA limits your international use.

I just came back from Europe. I did not have to do anything. T-Mo charged me $0.20 per minute both incoming and outgoing calls. I called from every country I was in, my total extra bill is under $20.

To be fair I must say both Verizon and Sprint have dual CDMA and GSM phones.

That is what I liked about Tmo is when going to England. Verizon is very expensive. The catch is for less than two weeks a year it was good, but the other 50-ish weeks in Kentucky and Ohio, Tmo has long stretches of no phone coverage, yet alone data.

The only place Verizon has issues that I drive is West Virginia, but all carriers have bad and no signal in a lot of areas there.

There is life after Verizon. Leave before they drive you insane on your own dime. Then get the LG 3/32GB and use it on another carrier.

The main function of course is still a phone ;) so coverage matters to me. Tmo is not very good in a lot of areas in Kentucky and Ohio. I also have unlimited data on two lines that I like and use.

If Tmo had better coverage and unlimited uncapped data, I would consider :)

Verizon is like a hot girlfriend from hell.

I also left Verizon for ATT at the beginning of year after moving from So Cal to Texas for new job last year. When living in CA, Verizon was a little better overall though I saw a few spots where ATT has better signal. But here in Central Texas, AT&T seem to be the king of signal! ATT is still behind Verizon in overall nationwide coverage but they are closing the gap fast according to the latest study (forgot the link).

Now I'm enjoying the world of GSM/HSPA+ with smooth LTE hand-off. And no more BS on software updates, phone releases. Can bring my own device like international unlocked, Nexus phones, etc if I wish and save money on line charge. None of this is possible with Verizon.

Too bad you're wrong.

Verizon's Flagships these days all ship unlocked and they're global devices.

They have HSPA+ bands in them.

They're basically CDMA/LTE and GSM/HSPA+ handsets, and they use a SIM Card.

You can get HSPA+ on AT&T with a Verizon Galaxy Note 3, for example.

You can also get LTE on some carriers if they use the same band (i.e. T-Mobile where they're transmitting on Band 4).

Verizon's policy of shipping their devices unlocked and Supporting a myriad of frequencies have made a lot of their handsets some of the best for roaming and carrier hopping both domestically and internationally (when traveling) these days. This is true for Android, Windows Phone handsets, and even the iPhone to some extent.

Also, AT&T isn't all that much faster than Verizon for software updates, and they tend to ship buggy updates much more frequently than Verizon. AT&T users who got their update had to deal with battery (camera) bugs on KK, while hardly any Verizon users have reported that issue on forums - for example.

You can bring your own device with Verizon. Just be smart about it. Find a good deal and perform the transaction at a Verizon store while getting the Rep to activate the phone to avoid getting a "deal too good to pass up" (which means a Blacklisted device or something that you cannot use as a phone). That's what I always do when I buy a second hand phone.

Someone sold an HTC One M7 for $100 which I then flipped for $250 ($150 Profit) doing it that way. If I actually needed a phone, no Nexus would have been able to compete with that price, and it was practically in mint condition.

You misunderstood my comment.

I know today's Verizon phones support GSM/HSPA for international use oversea. But that's not what I meant.

You just can't do the opposite, bringing international unlocked phone or nexus 4, 5 and activating it on Verizon network. As far as I know, that's next to impossible.

No they won't activate it if they don't support it.

But you can get a Verizon phone and use it most anywhere else.

Using specific model/line of phone is tactful, but you aren't limited to those phones and can often get better devices for cheaper in mint condition on CL or eBay.

Do the sale at the Verizon store to make sure you don't get got and you're golden.

Updates are overrated. Most of the KK updates and crying about it showed just how little it takes to make a small (vocal) section of the user base cry rivers.

No phone gets instant updates on any carrier. Period. iPhones are not an exception. Apple holds the updates until they're all ready together.

The Nexus devices on T-Mobile and Sprint have demonstrated that Verizon is not alone in the way it manages FW updates, so I'm not sure why anyone is even using that as a reason to leave or avoid them.

No you cannot use your Nexus 5 on Verizon. Enjoy T-MOBILE or AT&T. For me, there are much better phones available and the device is only a fraction of what you pay these carriers anyways. AT&T is barely cheaper than Verizon.

Well, I always take complaints on the forum with grain of salt. If I go by that, what's up with ton of battery complaints with KK update on Verizon Note 3? There was GS3 JB update fiasco last year that killed LTE reception and battery life and it made headlines on many IT sites. Also their JB update for my Droid Razr HD just made it lag like turtle from speedy ICS. Sure I think ATT had their share of buggy updates but so is Verizon.

I figured I can save about $360 a year with two own devices too.

I get you like Verizon and I also had them about 8 years. ATT is not perfect. But I felt like it's time to try GSM network. This is not thread about network discussion, so I won't go any further here.

Those are part for the course with android updates. Factory reset the device and all goes well.

If you actually read those threads, you'd see it fixed the issue for the vast majority of people who posted.

I always reset after an update, so I never see those issues.

I had AT&T before Verizon. My coverage at home is better with them. I only went to Verizon to consolidate my two lines.

Don't make those assumptions about what I do or don't like. I'm just stating facts and that doesn't make me biased in either direction ☺

Price wise Verizon and AT&T are basically a wash, which Verizon being slightly more expensive.
