Too much Of Us Tied Into Cell Phones?

Ah, when I was a lad the rule was never to put anything you didn't want the world to know on a networked computer. Mind you, most people didn't have any home computer or network connection, so it was easy to follow ;)

I'm annoyed right now about personalization. There's places to put all your info on the phone. It's my phone, I know who I am so why do I have to?

I'm tired of "everyone else does, it's customary, etc."

Personalization to me is a pic of my cat's butt with the words "Eff Off"
(I did have something like that as a splash screen on 98SE. You could change the stupid Windows one)

Personalization is fine as long as you conform to what they believe that to be :p

Why do carriers want to 'spy' on us? I really don't understand.
The carriers don't necessarily want to spy on you. That's not their gig, and they're not exactly the type to embrace new things.

It's the data merchants and the governments that you really need to watch out for. They're the ones with a vested interest in who you're talking to and what you're saying.

How Verizon and Other Wireless Carriers Are Mining Customer Data | MIT Technology Review

I refuse to play. I can have everything enabled and as far as the carrier knows, I'm sitting at home.
I'm also ordering everything I want from online on the PC rather than use the local businesses who don't carry anything I really want.

Personalization. From personal. What I consider personal is different from what you consider personal and each of us should be able to do what we want within reason.
