Root Took Evo for a motorcycle ride, camera is fuzzy.

Hey all,

I pocketed my phone for a ride doing some errands today. When I go to use the camera, it can't seem to find focus. It will focus, then fuzz, and then has some horrible looking blur on the screen that sticks on the picture.

I checked the lens. No scratches or dirt. I reset the phone, did a restore from about two weeks ago, flashed a few other ROMs on the phone, and can't figure it out. I've gone through the settings in the camera and can't get any progress there either.

I've attached a picture I took a minute ago to give an idea of what the pictures are looking like.

Thanks,

Ewww... that's not looking good.
If you flashed new roms (doing wipes and all that jazz) and did restores, I'm not sure. To me, this is looking more like a hardware problem, which isn't what you wanted to hear I'm sure. Maybe someone else has more experience with the camera and knows of this happening (and can provide a fix!).
By the way, that chair looks really comfortable.

That looks like something isnt hooked up right. Kind of when the montior cable gets knocked loose and the colors go crazy.

yeah that looks and sounds like hardware issue to me as well. that sucks:( i hope you have insurance.

Yeah, me too. I can't remember if I bought it or not. I usually do. Will have to dig up the receipts.

To those who suggested a hardware issue, that was my fear as well. Dammit... God giveth me a new motorcycle, then he taketh away my friggin' camera.

Well if u got it from Sprint they require u to have insurance
Hm... I remember them asking about it and my dad telling me to buy it within 30 days of purchase of the phone. I just don't remember if I did buy it afterwards or not.

But if they actually require it, then I should be good. I'll call Sprint tonight.

Ya not to sure how long ago you bought your phone and if it makes a difference but. They have a 4 $ a month insurance and a 7$ a month insurance and you have to have the 7 with the evo super sonic bad to the bone phone.......... for them to start your contract

This^ I fix sprint phones and that's all they are likely to do, if it still makes that picture after they reseat the camera they'll probably just the camera for another one. Also, you are NOT required to have insurance to activate the Evo, We push it but if you say no we won't add it. Worst case, if you don't have insurance you pay $35 for a repair like that.

Great info. Thanks to you and The Kid.

Now about 'reseating' the camera... When I pull the back cover off, all that's exposed is the red lens. It seems to be pretty snug in there to me. Is there something else I'd need to remove or that I should be looking for?

Also, if it's a camera hardware issue, would it matter if I took a rooted phone in for service? I realize that may be a very silly question....

I do not work for sprint, but I have heard (here mostly) that often sprint repair personnel don't really care if it's rooted and the problem is hardware. But, again, I would unroot to be safe.

yeah i agree. i would not take the risk. if you gonna take it in, i would unroot it. it is a pretty simple process. just follow the rooting guide in the unrooting section.

Yeah, I see it being a cold day in hell before that happens. They dont want to open themselves to the liability of fixing messed up phones and/or dealing with basically OKing wireless tethering on their network.

Being said, its pretty hard for them to tell but they wouldnt want to condone it.

Figured I'd update this thread, just for grins. I haven't gotten around to taking the phone in to be fixed, but I tried using my camera today for the first time since I posted this and it works!

I have no clue why. But it takes and holds focus. No fuzzy lines any longer.

Weird.

That's great! Hopefully it was just a random chaotic event that will not repeat at all (especially on my phone) ;)

Its low light thats killing some phones. IDK if its a bug in the GB or some of the base ROMs going on but Im getting FC in low light shots, and not just FC, total reboot.
