Help Touch Screen freeze and apps in SD (no root)

Hello everyone, I have 2 problems.

1. I bought this PREVAIL a month ago. Did not root or installed apps other than from android market. After about 2 weeks, noticed that the upper 2/3 of the screen stopped responding to touch. Battery pull corrected that. It was weird that only lower 1/3 of the screen was responding to touch, the icons or emails in upper 2/3 didn

When it happened again, I got a replacement from bestbuy. Now this one is 10 days old. Once upper 1/3 of the screen stopped responding. Battery pull fixed it. Has not happened again so far. The screen is clean, no oil or anything and battery pull fixes that. Is this happening only with me or other people too? Any solution?

2. Want to force install apps to SD without rooting since I heard that would void the warranty. And with this ongoing screen issue wont want that. I tried the trick explained in other android forums in which phone is connected in debugging mode then "CMD setlocation 0" thing. Everything went fine but it didn’t work for me. I didn’t not get the option to move apps to SD in any app. I was told perhaps my phone has different ROM. So I want to know, has anyone with PREVAIL tried that? Has it worked with anyone? Or is there any other way to force install apps to SD without rooting for prevail?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds 2 me like you ended up getting two lemons . If you are already having trouble and the phone is just over 10 days old , I would take this one back also . Best Buy may have gotten a bad batch of phones . It happens .


I had two Blackberry's go bad on me back 2 back about 6 months ago .

The only way I have ever used App 2 SD is with a rooted phone . Someone else may have tried using it on non rooted phone but I have never heard of it being done on the Prevail .
 
the frozen half of the screen thing has happened with 2 seperate prevails to myself also. I'm personally not bothered by it cuz it doesn't happen to often. I would think it would be software related rather than hardware related.
 
I got my third PREVAIL today from bestbuy. hopefully the screen will not freeze anymore.

depends on what you mean by force install to sd.

Froyo has built in support for installing to sd, however that is dependent on the creator of the app making it possible to put to sd.

Go to menu and manage apps and look for button that says move to sd. If the button is greyed out the creator did not make them movable.

The only way to move them if that is the case is with app2sd.
 
thanks for reply. i know about the move to SD card thing but most apps that i have don't have that option (medical apps).

i followed this trick [ ‪Force ALL Android Apps to SD Card (FROYO) (NON-ROOT)‬‏ - YouTube ] which is simply using CMD in windows and putting the command "set location 0". This same trick worked for many people with other Froyo devices but not for me. Has anyone done this on their non rooted prevail??

And BTW my third prevail has the same 2/3 screen freeze issue :((( happened just on second day. this time i didn't battery pull and played with the apps in the lower 1/3 of the screen. somehow i was able to start Skype and as soon as it opened the screen was fine again. don't know whether its the Skype that does it or what.
 
I was informed by a boost dealer that samsung has done an unoffical recall on the prevails. The last batch that was made are having alot of software issues. I contacted samsung and they had told me the same thing.

I called boost and samsung they told me there's no unofficial recall. Not to cause a fight or an argument just stating what they told me.
 
Not sure that is what I was told. Maybe it is just the ones sent to stores in Florida. But it was just the ones the store recieve last week.

I agree with Wetbiker...my phone froze on me for about 7 mins. It was shutting off, going to screens I didn't request and simply staying in one place forever. I recorded the last 5 mins of it (for proof) with my other cellphone and took it back to the dealer. Fortunately, I didn't need the video, because it acted worse when she tried to use it...they gave me another phone....it froze two hours later...

I initially thought it was the apps I downloaded, I had Scrabble and Pandora, but deleted Scrabble due to popups. It still froze ...I called Samsung. They had me do the hard reset. After hard resetting, I downloaded Pandora only, which played for eight hours by itself with no problems.

It froze once again, this morning, while sending an email(nothing else was running)...but not as bad as before. I turned it off and on and it works ok now... I definitely think that something is wrong with "batches" of phones..otherwise this forum would be full of complaints about freezing. I live in NC and if it freezes again, I am having them send one from another "batch". This is my first cellphone upgrade in 3 years, and my first android...so expecting good performance while sending an email is not too much to ask...is it?
 
I've had the same issue with the upper portion of my screen freezing but it only happens when I load certain apps. I don't recall which ones they are but when I was trying to find some new games from the market I'd run them and it would freeze up. The same app would cause the same problem after a restart stop I just removed the app. It still VERY rarely does it usually when I'm in an app and the app gets closed due to an incoming call buy once I relaunch the app it fixes itself.

Hope this helps people troubleshoot the causes of this.
 
A friend of mine bought his from bestbuy and without installing anything it was freezing. He took it back and his new 1 did the same thing. I asked him to let me load hroark files that he uploaded and his phone is running great now. It hasnt froze up at all in the last 2 days.
 
I found the cure to this problem.
when the upper half of screen freezes, pull down the bar at the top and then push it back up :) will fix the freeze :)
