Help Touchscreen not working

Just bought a used Evo and now that I am using it I have noticed that the touchscreen is sometimes having trouble.

When I pull up the list of ringtones, as I pull down the list, it won't let me choose one of them, it changes as it moves, sometimes it is one towards the top, sometimes toward the bottom.

Also certain times when it pops up a window and asks ok or cancel, it won't let me choose either. I have to use the back button.

I have seen other people talk about this issue, saw someone on Youtube with it, but haven't really seen any way to solve it.

I have done the calibration and tried a hard reset. What are the possible issues that could be causing this? How do I narrow down what it could be?

First Welcome to the Forums we are glad your here.

Being that its used it very likely is a hardware issue and is probably the reason the original owner has sold it. You could order a new screen on line for like 10 dollars and replace it and see if that was the issue. It could also be an issue with the stock ROM (Assuming the Phone isn't ROOTED)

perhaps you could give us a bit more information about the phone such as

software version
Kernel version
build number
also if you could pull the battery put it back in hold down the volume down button and the power button and tell us everything on that screen.
(Should be a white screen with andy skating at bottom)
This will give us your hboot info

hi, I'm having a similar issue with my htc evo 4g, the touch screen works but the home, menu, back, and search buttons do not work. I have tried basic things like taking the battery out and also clearing cache and davik cache as well but no dice.

Are you rooted? If so, what ROM?

This is most likely a hardware rather than software issue. Do you have insurance?

The ribbon cable could be lose for the digitizer
