Tracy Morgan's homophobic rant in Nashville

Remember people a comic makes fun of the gays, blacks, latinos, whites, and so on. Name a comic that doesnt make fun of someone and that person isnt a comic. Dont like what he or she says? Then dont buy a ticket and go to the show.

It would be different if he said it in another place that wasnt where he was preforming. People needs to learn to laugh and stop taking everything so serious. Watch some of Eddie Murphy earlier stuff. He makes fun of the gays and blacks and all the other ethinic groups.

Uh...are you guys actually reading the article? This was NOT part of his "comedy routine." Saying that he'd stab his own son if he turned out gay? How is that funny in ANY context?

I can take a joke. I laugh at myself & lesbian stereotypes all the time. Morgan's rant is NOT a joke.

And I just realized I put the wrong name down in the title, LOL. This is Tracy Morgan, not Tracy Lawrence, a popular country singer in the '90s. I'll get a mod to fix.

Did you read the article? it states and I quote
During a performance last Friday night in Nashville,
So he said it during his show.

*Sigh* Yes, it was during his show. NO, I do not believe saying he'd kill his son if he turned out to be gay was part of his planned routine. My guess? He started out with some gay jokes & perhaps some egging on by the audience (I read another article where lots of people were cheering him on, while a few walked out) & that got him started on his rant.

Funny as hell. I'm a Trach Morgan fan. Comedians get to make fun of whoever they want. Trying to censor him because you disagree is one sign of what is wrong in our society today. The gay agenda asks for tolerance but often is not willing to extend the same in return.

MOD EDIT - joke removed

A lesbian comes out to her mom. Her mom says "Well I don't ever want to hear you complain about my cooking again!"

That's funny.

Tracy openly saying that he'd stab his son if he turned out to be gay? I fail to see the humor in that.

AGAIN, I don't have a problem with comics getting a laugh at gays' expense. I laugh right along with them. Most of it IS funny.

THIS is not.

:D I hadn't heard the second joke before, I'm going to steal that from you.

It is perfectly fair not to like what he says; it would be unfair to seek to censor him or force him to apologize IMHO.

Heh, thanks. I actually adapted that from a longer joke, but you don't need all the filler for the punchline to still be funny.

You can't censor what has already been said, & he's already apologized. My initial question was what people thought would come of this. Fired from 30 Rock? Decreased ticket sales? Name dragged through mud like Michael Richards? Absolutely nothing?

News flash all comics will say they will always have some jokes bomb. Like I said if he would of said it out in the public like on the street or in a store then yeah he was out of line. This was during his show and guess what all comics has people walk out their show over something they took offense to. Its part of the comic life.

I have a stuttering problem and when jokes are cracked I laugh along with it. Why? I am not insecure with my problem and its so damn funny when I hear comics do it. I learned to live with my stuttering. I know people are going to make fun of me. The gay community needs to learn this too that no matter what they do someone will make fun of them. How else will they make a living as a comic.

Its funny to see a show and a black person sitting and laughing at the gay jokes and the latino jokes and so on but as soon as a black joke is spoken they suddenly find him offensive. Same goes for whites and gays and latino and so on. Its fine just as long as the comic isnt cracking on them.

Notice to everyone

Rather you are ok with what was said or not, (and I am not taking sides) we here at androidforums.com will not allow members to directly attack each other. Discussing opinions and views is ok, even questioning a point for debate is great; but if people start attacking each other and calling names I will close this thread faster than those people that left the performance.

Also if you do post jokes, keep them clean. This is a family forum, so if you post a dirty joke expect it to be removed and an infraction will be issued.

Interesting question and only time will tell. My initial thought is that he won't be crucified as unfairly as Michael Richardson was because, right or wrong, what Richardson said was much more taboo to the general American public than what Morgan said.
Morgan may see a slight decrease (by slight I mean total dissapearnce) in sales to the gay community. Who knows what 30 Rock will do. They probably couldn't care less about what he said but they will gauge how sponsorship may be affected. All IMHO.

I don't think you understand here. I'm not saying that it's bad to tell gay jokes. I tell them too. I laugh at them. I'm going to a comedy club tomorrow & there will probably be gay jokes told there. I will probably laugh at them. But you honestly think saying that he'd kill his own son if he was gay was a joke that backfired? In Tracy's apology, he even said that he took things too far, that he's not a violent person, & that what he said was not funny.

Again, my question is what do people think will come from this, not if they agree with his statements.

Fire him for what? He has done nothing that any other comic hasnt done in his or her career . For one Michael Richards wasnt a stand up comic and he was bombing on the stage and thats what happend to him. So you cant compare him to tracy. Remember the people bought the tickets to see an edgy show and well they got what they want. He sure isnt rated G. I heard him on the Howard Stern show and he is down right dirty but funny.

We all go to far at least once in our life. Only reason this is getting any air time is that he is famous on a popular show. If it was you or me. You think the media would give us a second thought about what we say or the public for that matter. Being famous is like living with crosshairs on your forehead and one slip up and bang they got ya.

As someone who is a big Tracy Morgan fan on 30 Rock, I am genuinely shocked by his "jokes". It's very difficult for me to see them as jokes because I've heard them all in some similar variation (except the last one) from people who were not joking at all and were serious. I have no idea how he event went there but it's hard to see the "funny" in any of those statements.

I've heard ALL sorts of gay jokes (I never hear the end of them from my closest friends and ex-roommate). I sincerely enjoy them and find them funny. Whenever there's threat of violence involved... that's never funny. It's like saying it's ok since he's a comedian if he says that if his child converted to Judaism, he would stab him. Not funny.

I really do hope that his apology is sincere... although it's hard for me to believe it. I really like his character on 30 Rock.

This is something that's being speculated on. Tina Fey is a very public LGBT supporter. She might come under scrutiny if she DOESN'T publicly say/do something about Morgan's rant.

Well I really hope that Tina doesn't feel like she has to be dragged into this. I think even she, as a fellow comedian, would not find those "jokes" hilarious.

I agree. It's not like Tina is responsible for what comes out of Tracy's mouth. She didn't have anything to do with the situation at all, but I just have a feeling she'll be put in the spotlight on this issue at some point. There's already a facebook group asking her to fire him. Not that facebook groups hold any merit, but still.

THen she better have a problem with lisa lampanelli and all other people that bash the gay community. You cant have your cake and eat it too. If you find what he says offensive? Then you have to find every other comic offensive that bash the gay community. You cant pick and choose.

Whether we find a joke to be cruel, in poor taste, offensive, or in any other disagreeable form is up to the individual. What we as Americans can't do is try to selectively restrict a comedian's right to work with that kind of material through censorship be it direct or indirect. Once this begins we are ass-over-tin cup down a slippery slope. IMHO

Big Lisa Lampanelli fan here, but I'm not sure I've ever heard her make a joke comparable to the one in question.

Interested to see what other stand-up comics say about this.
