Trade nexus s on T-mobile for 4G w/Sprint?

Hello all,

Bought my "S" on March 2nd so I'm still within my 30 day return period with Best Buy. I purchased unlocked so am on a month to month plan with T-Mobile. So far, so good with the phone and T-mobile here in the Washington, DC area. Now all this talk comes out about Sprint (who I also have an account with-son's phone) offering the "S" with 4G capability.

Have no idea when it will actually be available. Predicted to be announced at CITA next week. Since I'm not in contract with Tmo, and I opted for Best Buy's new "Buy-Back" program, I could still switch to Sprint a few months down the road, when and if, Spring does offer the "S" with a 4G radio. Only downside, is if I wait past my 30 day return period, I'll lose about $250, as I only get 50% back after that with "buy-back."

I think I'm kind of answering my own question as I write this, but would like any other viewpoints from folks who currently have the "S" and are either happy or unhappy with the speeds and performance with Tmo, and are maybe thinking of moving over to Sprint to get the 4G version of the "S".

Any thoughts, comments, or advice on this question would be appreciated.

My only worry would be how bad the battery will be on Wimax. It's notorious for sucking batteries dry. So you would have to weigh the importance of that speed over battery which don't think i wouldn't trade

Great Point! "AndreaCristiano",

I think all the "4G" networks will be tough on battery life. It will be interesting to see Sprint's announcement of the new phone to see what kind of specs it's going to have, perhaps a beefed up battery?

I have thought about switching to sprint to save some money but I don't think it's worth it. Overall I'm happy with Tmobile because it takes advantage of the 4G speeds with every android device. I highly doubt the Wimax version on Sprint will be that much faster. Because I constantly get 3-4 mbs down and 1 up. My friends Epic typically only gets about 2 mbs down and 1 up on average. So I don't think it will really be all that different at least in my area.
 
Really on the fence here about returning my "S" to best buy and waiting on the Sprint 4G version! I've only got about a week to make a decision.

Can't get any info on a release date for the Sprint model. It would mean going back to AT&T with my iphone 3G for the interim. (is there a limit to how many times you can port your cell number?)

I have a current sprint account for my son's phone. I'd have to open a new line of service to get the "s" for $199, but I'd be getting $529 back on the TMO version return from Best Buy. Sprint is "CDMA", vs. Tmo's GSM, no sim card with the sprint version. Does this matter at all?

It also doesn't help with the recent merger news. Who knows how that's going to work out, although it will be a while before anything significant happens. Still just something else to consider.

Help! Somebody talk me into either doing this, or not doing it.

Well you'd be saving $300 and have the peace of mind with Sprint that you dont really have with the T-mob / ATT merger. Ive been with Sprint for a loooong time so its a no brainer for me, but now with all this EVO 3D info coming out Ill need to carefully decide on my next phone between these 2.

As far as release date, Id say it will be soon seeing as they are taking pre-orders. They prob wouldnt do that now if the release was months away.
