Accessories Trident Cyclops Case for HTC Evo 4G

Don't waste your money on the so called Premium Screen Protectors. They are just as crappy as the original. The rainbow oil effect is still there. What a rip-off!

I too have the rainbow effect.... while its not that bad, it still shouldnt be there since one of the LISTED FEATURES for the protector is that it is "bubble free"...

I sent them a cordial email about the problem stating i'd either like a replacement in hopes it would work out better, or a solution that WOULD work....

I absolutely LOVE the case, so getting rid of it is not an option, but I use a dark wallpaper, so I definatly see the problem alot...

ya, i'm going to go out on a limb here and say the oil issue is from your greasy fingers! clean the screen every once in awhile with a good cloth (not your shirt) and you should have no, to very little, problems with a rainbowy look....if this is bugging you now, do not buy an OB defender case because the screen protector on there is going to be just as bad...

on a lighter note, just ordered mine from NewEgg (because I trust them) for 27 bucks shipped. Got the black and gray for now, wife will probably get it once Trident drops the O.D.(military) Green color scheme...it looks so sexy! so ya, i'll jump on here and post an update and take some side by sides comparing it to my wifes out of the case while mine is in the case!

You must be joking, right? About the rainbow issue.

What phone do you have? You must be an iPhone user, since NewEgg does not sell Trident cases for the EVO yet...I like it, an iPhone user hanging out on the EVO forum.

No, i'm not joking, take the case off and wipe the oil from your fingers off the screen with a microfiber cloth or something that you would use to clean sunglasses...far few complaints about this issue for the amount of cases they have sold...its simple, oily finger prints does this on glass screens as well...it's a biproduct of having greasy fingers....also, a probably easier explanation for you to understand, these screen protectors are built into the case, they are not sealed onto the phone's screen like a Zagg or any other screen protector you buy, so light bends in between the spaces and can create this after effect...if you don't like it, move on, you sacrificed 27 bucks to see something that will happen anyway....

also, yes i did order my HTC EVO Trident Cyclops black/gray case on newegg. would you like a link? ok here you go Neweggmall.com - For BLACK GRAY Trident Cyclops HTC EVO 4G Hard Case

Do you feel better now?

I have never felt better. Thanks for asking.

You explaination of "oily fingers" and "greasy fingers" is just stupid. You obviously have no clue as to what you are talking about concerning this particular case as you don't actually have it on your phone yet. But you will see.

As far as your statement
far few complaints about this issue for the amount of cases they have sold

Do you have inside information concerning the amount of complaints Trident has as compared to the volume they sold? Why don't you share the numbers? Check their facebook page and you will see plenty of complaints.

Nice to see you can draw so many conclusions without first hand experience. Did you even read this thread or just start at the end?

No, I actually read the entire thread and even read the Facebook page as well. Talked to their customer service reps, and even did a little google searching to see if this problem does happen to other cases with built in screen protectors. and ya, all the evidence I found, doing my own research and not just reading what other people say in forums where little problems get blown into huge industry crushing news, suggested to me that this is a common occurrence amongst phones with built in screen protectors.

I'm glad you decided to troll me an iPhone user and then shut up when a link was shown to your face, but no need to apologize for ignorance.

I did buy this case, and I will manage with the rainbow issues if they crop up. The only issue I am concerned about is the proximity sensor, but everything has shown that to be related to the color cases, and I got the black one. None-the-less, I still proceeded to buy this case.

Now you can continue to troll along and regurgitate simple "talking points" or you can utilize that well known resource has google and educate yourself, that's where I found this case at NewEgg.

I in no way meant to imply that you were trolling. It was my mistake for not knowing that NewEgg had created a storefront called NewEggMall.com. NewEgg still does not sell these cases for the EVO.

So your statement "far few complaints" is based on what the manufactuer told you? I guess that is a realiable source.

Did they also tell you this issue is caused by consumers with oily and greasy fingers?

Attack away if you want, you get the last word(s) as I refuse to entertain your half baked conclusions spawned by your Google education.

No, the idea of the oily/greasy fingers come from just knowing how oil refracts light. After doing more reading on other forums. The iPhone boys are all kinds of upset that the OtterBox Defender they got has the rainbow effect as well, also some basic screen protectors that people are buying cheaply are having the same issue. It could have something to do with a coating on the glass of these new phones. Some people say a little alcohol rub on the screen will fix this problem. Others use baby powder.

Bottom line is this, some form of oil OR coating OR something between the screen protector and the screen is causing the light to refract and display a rainbow effect industry wide.

For those of you who are choosing to go to OtterBox because of this rainbow issue, understand that the problem is being seen there as well. So you may just have to deal with it. I plan on taking it day by day with the case and trying different ideas.

The other issue with the pictures having a blue tint, that can probably be solved by simply cutting the PET plastic that covers the LED's and the camera lens. I am assuming the light from the flash is being reflected through the plastic, if you cut it, it should stop. Maybe use a black sharpie along the cut to darken the edges of the plastic, that may help as well.

Zombroid - fandroid - whatever, thank you! your ability to back track and spout simple troll like phrases amused me for about an hour. You have made a portion of my day go by a little faster, and for that i say THANK YOU!

Dude those look really nice, and I like the colors! If I end up not using my Seido giant battery on certain days I'd grab one of these.

My solution (worked for me) for the rainbow effect on-screen.

Take the top half off, and go to the bathroom. Don't pee on it, just run it under the sink with cold water and rub it with some decent pressure (fingers on both sides) against the film. I think it has a coating or something on it, because after I did that a few times (it had stuff under that I couldn't get off otherwise) I don't have that problem anymore.

I'm a little disappointed at accessorygeeks right now....i ordered mine a week ago and it supposedly just shipped yesterday, then i get an email from them saying there was defect and they aren't going to ship it, then i get an e-mail confirmation that it was shipped, and now their customer service department won't respond to e-mail about whether or not my order was shipped, cancelled, or if i'm waiting for another shipment of cases...this is rather annoying...on the other hand, trident sent me their premium case quickly, it arrived 2 days after i placed the order. next time, i will pay the extra 6 bucks or so to buy directly from the dealer...

I was looking at the Cyclops case too, and saw your post. It's a nice looking case and appears to be solidly built, but I'm curious as to whether the bottom ports would be accessible for use with a dock and/or car mount. It looks like the area (rim) surrounding the ports on the case bottom protrudes a good distance from the ports and edge of the case itself. I like the built in screen protector!

Anyone have experience with the Trident Cyclops case regarding the above? Is it a solid (well made) case and protective of the EVO?

Thanks in advance!

LD

Thanks for the code! Ordered one (red) today. With shipping it came to $16.14. We shall see how well it holds up when I get it, hopefully in the next week.

THIS SUCKS!

I paid full price for this thing not too long ago!

CRAPOLA!

I finally received my white Cyclops case today and I must say... well worth the wait and the price.... Best protection all around... its a must for your evo if protection is what your looking for. :)

Actually, black, white, blue and yellow are all out of stock. I want a blue one, so I guess I'm SOL at this point. But I'm gonna keep checking every few days.

It was when I tried to order yesterday. The blue and white were out, and those were the only 2 I was considering. Now, if they'd make an obscenely neon pink .....

I ordered from the company in the 1st post of this thread (thanks for the coupon code). It was just over $16. Brand new Evo so I have ZERO experience with any other cases but I do like this one. It's fairly sturdy & the silicone ring on the outer edge will take anything I'm going to put my phone through. The screen cover is pretty good. I'm not sure if there have been issues but they packed an extra clear cover for the lens & flashes. I got the the black which is gray & black. Looks good.
I converted from a Pre so the Evo is huge to me. The case certainly adds bulk (~1/8") but what're ya gonna do?
