Root Tried to Root non-developer Razr M?

Lurker
I tried to use Motofail2go to root my Verizon Razr M, and only later discovered that in order to root a Razr M, it has to be a developer edition to root. This seems to be the case no matter what. Am I wrong?

If only that was made clear within every page that discusses how to root a Razr M.

Anywase, I ran the program and it said that the root was successful, but upon checking my root with "RootChecker," it says that the phone has not been rooted. And I even tried to root the phone after reverting to a factory reset.

Now, since this phone is locked because it is not a developer edition, should I even concern myself with reverting back to the factory edition? It seems to be a pain in the ass and a risky process to revert back from a rooted edition. But the question is, has my phone actually been rooted, or has it been partially rooted? Furthermore, will this show up if something happens to the phone, or will a potential partial root cause problems to the phone? Lastly, is it worth my time to go through the process of reverting back to a factory edition? Should I be concerned that I wont receive updates for my phone's OS?

I did everything but swap the superuser files.

This is what I did not do: "swap in the SU and Superuser files from here:
Installing a recovery and rooting your Dev Razr-M | AOSP"

But even if I did, I have read on other websites that the non-developer version, or the stock Verizon Razr M, cant be rooted because the bootloader is locked. Is this correct or not?

Well unless verizon screwed up and sent me a developer version I rooted mine yesterday with that same exact method and it worked like a charm.

Oh, well ****. Thanks for the information. And of course I've already unrooted and reset everything.

Well its good to know that there is hope, with a little more headache.

I've tried motofail, motochopper, razr blade... fastboot got me my deviceID, Motorola says my bootloader cannot be unlocked... I have a Razr M. I've replaced the su and Superuser.apk files, my drivers are well updated, I have all the necessary java and android SDK progs installed... I'm sure I'm forgetting something but please know I've been working on this for nearly 6 hours. Any help? Going to look and see if the above suggestion works...

Thanks in advance

This is what I get from Razr Blade :

[*] Phase one...
link failed Permission denied

[*] Phase two...
/system/bin/sh: cat: /data/data/com.motorola.contextual.fw/files/DataClearJarDex
.jar: Permission denied

(I follow and complete all instructions successfully)

It reboots, re-tries and this:

/system/bin/sh: can't create /data/data/com.motorola.contextual.fw/files/DataCle
arJarDex.jar: Permission denied

Motochopper:

[*] Pushing exploit...
3488 KB/s (1283460 bytes in 0.359s)
[*] Pushing root tools...
3438 KB/s (91980 bytes in 0.026s)
3681 KB/s (1867568 bytes in 0.495s)
3556 KB/s (969701 bytes in 0.266s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
[*] Rooting phone...
[+] This may take a few minutes.
[-] Failure.

Now, I've run this with the non-replaced files as well as the replaced files. After clearing cache and several factory resets, the Superuser.apk file doesn't return this message. But it still fails. I cannot find where the hell this .apk is on my phone to remove the previously installed version, which is where some of the factory resets came in. (killing a fly with a shotgun, I know...)
