Help Triumph Gorilla Glass

Hey Guys, I've been living under a rock. So rumor and fact has it that our MT's do come with Gorilla glass but what is it exactly? I assume Gorilla glass is the stuff that you can take a key to, drop stuff on and it's still perfect?

Is anyone using their MT with just the Gorilla Glass with the stock protector peeled off. How is that working out? any scratches?

I read in another post that someone said BB will install a Zagg shield for you, does anyone have a price off hand? I would hope less than $20.

Thanks everyone!

~Novak

BB will install your invisishield or others but it'll cost you 10 bills. Invisishield is a snap to install so why waste the bills...

I removed both stock screen protectors and installed a zagg. I never used a zagg on anything before, but I think I'm going to stick to this brand. The response is barely (and I mean barely worse than it was without the protector. The clarity is not noticeably worse at all. And my screen is protected. Well worth the $17 (or something thereabouts).

GG will break and it will scratch. It is not indestructible, just tough, resilient, and resistant to minor issues compared to most polymers.

GG is chemically strengthened glass and it is great technology.

I can attest to the fact that it is still very "destroyable"... I had it on top of a 30 pound bookbag on my kitchen table. My cat(dont ask) jumped on the table while I was on the john... I heard a smash clatter sound... and i ran out to see my phone's screen completly shattered.. it still worked, but half the screen was unreadable because it backed out /was completly shattered. virgin mobile sent me a new one though, even though i bought it from Amazon!

I don't know if it's still available, but I got a Zagg from bestbuy.com for my Triumph for 12.99. Good deal!

I removed the factory screen protector, and have been handling the Triumph as gently as possible. I noticed two scratches on it.

As far as I'm concerned, guerilla glass is for the birds.

And I carry mine in a pocket with the keys and change. No issues so far. Could care less if there are a few eventual scratches because it will happen.

GG is better than plastics and not as good as materials like sapphire. GG is just a strong glass that resists damage, nothing more.

Bob loves GG and he is a Corning Glass Fan Boy. Smiley.

Well according to the reply I got from Motorola see below it is NOT Gorilla glass even though the Corning website tends to imply that it is? Corning reply below as well. I don't have a "warm and fuzzy" feeling though as I communicated with the Motorola support folks that they really understand things, as an example in one E-Mail when I was asking about the factory installed screen cover the support reply stated that the cover was not Gorilla Glass, Dah.
If anyone else can actually confirm this I will feel more comfortable removing the factory screen protector but the longer I wait I can't help to think it will become more difficult to remove possibly.

Bob

Subject Triumph factory protector film Discussion Thread Dear Bob,

Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I

If it BREAKS (and people have reported that it shatters when dropped) then it's glass. Whether it's GORILLA glass is really rather immaterial; you CAN scratch that stuff.

Good Point. I intend to install a different protector over the glass. The factory one just seems to have more friction it's not gliding smooth.

I think it's funny how much fuss has been made whether or not it's actually gorilla glass. I personally wouldn't care if it were a plastic screen - I love the phone, it does what it's supposed to, it's given me no problems, and it makes and receives phone calls! No regrets to buying it!

Like any produce made with glass, the Triumph is not magically delicious or special because it incorporates Gorilla Glass. Gorilla Glass is just another glass, albeit a chemically strengthened glass, it will break and scratch just the same.

We abuse our phones and then we become agitated when we see a tiny scratch. Like Gorilla Glass should be resistant to all things. I carry mine in my pocket with keys and change. Yes it will scratch, Duh.

Some post email messages saying it is not Gorilla Glass and others say look at the Corning web site where it specifically says it is Gorilla Glass and others indicate Corning is lying or VM is lying. I'll believe the Corning website rather than some purported email message from some customer service department.

If you can manage to get a legitimate reply from VM/Corning, then scan it and post the headers. Trust me, people that often answer support questions can sometimes not know or they simply just make a guess.

I think arguing over the use or perhaps not the use of Gorilla Glass is silly. Gorilla Glass is not magical, it is simply glass.

Say . . . I knew a Whipple. There is also a Whipple Heating and Air here in Utah. I do not often encounter that name.

You are right, of course. I think there is too much debate about something that really does not matter much. I bet that by the time the screen is scratched to a point where it is hard to use, I'll have moved on to another phone.

Perhaps next time, they will use sapphire glass.

My screen cracked this past weekend. I did not drop it or bang it into anything, at least not that I am aware of. I have been extremely careful with this phone. I placed it down to charge with no visible scratches or cracks. I came back 30 mins later and it had what appeared to be a scratch in the middle of the screen. It spread across the screen. I have another phone on the way. Has anyone else had this happen? I work in warranty and have investigated glass cracking on its own due to how it was formed.

Thanks!

Greg

It is possible that your battery could have overheated and cracked the screen.

It could also be a bad batch of Gorilla Glass or assembly issues, stress, improper handling at the factory, or other things. Glass is a rather odd thing. Lead is often added to clarify, it sometimes breaks for no reason, a tiny little chip or minor scratch can start a crack, and it is considered a liquid.

I have seen some strange things in the world of glass.

I removed all of the screen protectors for a month now and don't have a single scratch and I usually scratch my phones up real bad so it seems to work for Me
