Trojan Virus ... Help!

badblue1

* TRUCKS ARE BEAUTIFUL *
I was just browsing in the LG Op V all things root forum and clicked on a link which got redirected and the page said your phone has been infected by a Trojan Virus, then it said to download an app to resolve this. Well i downloaded the app, but then i thought, maybe someone is trying to get information or give me a virus, so i deleted the app, now i don't know what to do, that's why i'm posting this for some of your expert advice!

Do i need to be worried?
Don't know what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Can you provide a link to the post that had the "bad" link?

Well the link i clicked on this evening wasn't the bad link, it just happened to redirect at that time, the Trojan message did say it came from a site i was on yesterday, but i clicked the download app so fast that i forgot to save the link.

I've been entering Publisher's Clearing House contest for months and you have to search the web to be entered ,so it could be anything, i should have known better!

If you're worried that your device has been compromised, you can perform a factory reset or flash a rom/factory image with a near total wipe. That would wipe out any potential issue.

Okay, it just happened again when i clicked this link

It happened when i clicked this link, but i just copied it and backed out. Do you think i should download like it says, it said it would scan my device?

And thanks for your suggestion about flashing another rom.

I've personally been really skeptical of these "services". For the most part, malware on android is self inflicted. You may or may not realize you put it on there if you're being deceived. I would think you're probably fine, and that it's trying to trick you into inflicting yourself with it. But since you did say you installed it earlier, flashing the rom (even if it's the same one over itself) would wipe it out for sure.

For the most part I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. There pretty much is no such thing as a trojan on android or all of linux for that matter mainly due to the fact that you aren't allowed root user permissions (similar to administrator on pc). However there are other forms of malware that collect data, push notification adds, and more. Most of this can be resolved by simply uninstalling the app. However if a worry does remain I would also hace to recommend a factory reset. But only if you find it necessary. Because chances are better than not that its not affecting you anymore.

there's plenty of sites that have adds claimimg your device has a trojan. Do not click these ads, they are almost always malware. Beware of this for future reference!

Hope this helps,
Boyo

Thanks a lot for your help, i don't know if this means anything, but after my last post i left the forum and went back to my home screen, then i got a Gmail that you had replied when i clicked my Gmail app it said it wasn't installed, but i restored it with titanium backup.

As for installing the same rom, i usually just wipe cache and dalvik cache, is that enough or should i do a full wipe like installing a new rom with gapps?
THANKS

@boyo 1991...my phone is rooted.

On another note, i usually view the forum in its full site mode, now i'm stuck in this tiny mobile mode and the thanks button is just a question mark.

So thanks everyone for your help, maybe i will reflash cause everything is sorta goin haywire.

That's just an ad site, the domain is for sale. You get all sorts of crappy ads on them, usually fake virus warnings, dating, male enhancements, knock-off Gucci, LV, Apple and Nike products, etc. As long as you didn't actually download and install any software from a fake virus ad you should be OK.

To anyone else reading this, dont download something just because the screen says you should and if you do, do a factory reset afterwards.
Unless you install something, it cant hurt you.
Good luck to the OP lol he doesnt seem that serious tbh :)

Thanks for your reply, i'm feeling much better about this already, i think your right, not going to worry about it.

Thank all of you for putting my mind at ease.

Classic "scareware" scam.

If you're really worried, scan your phone with Lookout or one of the others available on the market.

I know very little about android viruses (and I use Lookout) but I do know the equivalent in Windows is a real killer and never, ever, ever let them download the 'fix' to your system as that is the actual virus most of the time). I once had to junk a PC because the virus (contracted from a site I was using to monitor the Iranian protests a few years ago) completely killed the operating system and even doing a complete system erase and reloading the operating system failed.

Did you try formatting the hard drive, putting Ubuntu on it, then maybe reformatting again? If you use a recovery PARTITION to recover, and not a DVD, it can become infected/corrupted itself.

To the OP: Never click those, as your device cannot, under most circumstances, be infected without user action of some type

Make sure Unknown Sources is UNchecked in Security settings to prevent any accidental installation of apps from outside Google Play (its usually unchecked by default)

I downloaded Lookout, it says everything is fine on my phone.
Thanks again guys for your advice!

On another note, i've always browsed AF in desktop view, did they change something, it's so small now in mobile, even zoomed to max i can barely read it.

I want my desktop view back!!!!!

You dont have the option to edit a post? Youd rather just make a meal of a typo? Cool :)

Nah he's just following protocol. If we spot a typo that could cause major harm we might slip an edit in there and let you know. Or we might just shoot you a line. A poster of you caliber is around here enough you'll probably be able to edit just as quick as we can. :D

Thanks for all you do around the site btw Funky.
