Root Trouble Reverting to Stock, help please.

I've followed this guide:

And although I don't consider myself a newb, it didn't seem to fully work.

I followed the steps and everything seems to be back to normal. It's got the stock 2.2 installed, the original splash screen and sound. But when the phone comes up it doesn't do the initial setup wizard (or did 2.2 not have that?).

It also says "removing activate from home screen" or something like that. It still has an Activate app in the app drawer however. And when I go into the Settings > About Phone > Status, it still lists my phone number in it. So did I miss wiping something out?

I had CM7 installed if that makes a difference.

Oh and one more question. What is the code I type into the dialer to manually activate the phone and change the system settings? I just want to make sure it works before selling it.

Did you restore the factory recovery? If so, did you do a factory reset? It's different from the factory reset that the custom recovery does.

Yeah, I did the built in Factory Restore or whatever it's called in the phone's menu (I think it's under Settings>Privacy). Then I also used the stock recovery and did the Factory Reset in there as well.

im not sure on the other things, but as for the initial setup, since this is a Nandroid backup and not a stock rom id guess that there isnt supposed to be a setup


just llike if you were to create a nandroid while running whatever rom, when you loaded it, it wouldnt have a setup it would just make it exactly as it was when you created the backup

Altho normally after a full factory reset, the setup usually does reappear, i think lol


also, and im not 100% sure, but i think your phone number should show up, cause the number goes with the phone until you have it changed, like whenever you activated the phone they gave you a phone number, and if you were to switch phones or companies you usually tell them youd like to keep your existing number, so once deactivated if someone else were to activate the phone they would get a different number, especially if you kept your old one, again im not 100% sure about this number part so someone else who does know may chime in lol

After I restore the factory recovery file, how do I get into the recovery mode?
Is it like clockworkmod? Pressing power and both volume together?

I've flashed stock 2.2 many times, and it will shouldnt have a startup screen like you have with CM7, however you can get your google account linked to the phone by going to settings>account & sync>add account. And it is normal when it says "removing activation icon", it happens for me, and im activated. Is this what you mean?

Sound like you put it back to stock. I think the activation thing you were hoping to show up would be after a master reset through the RTN ##786# you will need the MSL for the master reset.

Use app called aLogcat and set a log filter "sec_code", drop it down and open dial pad ##33284#, from next screen put in 000000, will show error, hold home button and open up aLogcat, when it shows read the last 6 numbers... that will be you MSL needed for the master reset (write it down). Now go back to dial pad for RTN ##RTN# then select reset, enter the MSL, follow through... When the phone restart it will be completely reset and ready for activation. this will be the reset you were looking for before selling.

you should of put the stock recover back on before master reset. If you have not put the stock recovery on before doing the master reset it will hang on the custom recovery, just tell it to reboot to system and then put stock recovery on.

If you are missing the initial setup wizard, thats gapps i think, at least thats what runs that initial setup asking you for google account and so forth. Maybe you skipped flashing that, if its even in the guide.

as far as the activation thing not working correctly, im not too sure about that. I know i put Harmonia 2.2 on my old Optimus V when i was giving it to someone else, so they had the activation app.

Are you just selling/giving this phone to someone else or are you going to give it back to where you bought it/virgin or something?

Cause if you are just giving it to someone else, you could just find a super stable Froyo Rom, even a themed one, that has all the working bits and parts needed to reactivate a phone like the activation app. just an idea. (stock froyo sucks anyway.)

The stock rom doesn't require installing of gapps, and since its a nandroid backup it should have everything stock

As for finding a real good froyo rom, I'm not sure if it would be able to be activated, its normally highly suggested to be running 100% stock during activation

Thank you! This is essentially what I needed to know. I remember back when I gave my wife my Optimus V, we were unable to activate it because I was still on CM7. So I had to revert to stock to activate on her account.

I just wanted to make sure that I could access this menu on the Triumph before I sold it.
