trouble rooting hero

I have recently been trying to root my HTC hero, however I have come away empty handed three different times. My phone is allowing unknown source applications to be installed and the debugging option is also on. Upon some closer digging I found I was missing a file named dxdrm (my cousin rooted his phone 2 days before and suggested that might be the problem.) I don't know how big of a problem this is. And im wondering if I can obtain that file elsewhere. I've tried the unrevoked and z4root multiple times. Any suggestions or solutions?

You will most likely have to update your RUU to 2.1 *** .5 build, then you can root with either Universal Androot, [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers Or Upgrade to the latest RUU 2.1 *** .7 build and the use the Z4root, [APP] z4root - xda-developers, they are both one click process and very simple

I got the .5 build. Tried the 1.6.2 beta 5 (also tried the two older versions) and my phone says 'no application on the phone supports this download.' Or something along those lines. As for the z4root the phone is simply not allowing me to install it.

Make sure you flash the .5 build first then check about phone and make it says 2.27.651.5 then try the 1.6.1 APK for Universal Androot, and make sure your USB debugging is on, Menu/applications/development/USB Debugging

Or try unrevoked, google it, download it, run it. This may only work on the 2......5 build

We are assuming he is on 2....5, still awaiting to see if he flashed it and not only download it, LOL he never responded to my post, LOL

i am also having problems using the one click root method I am on version 2.32.651.2 is there any updated version?

If Z4root does not work, then you will have to flash the .5 build and then root from there, click HERE
