Root Trouble rooting V

I've been trying to root my lg optimus v android 2.2.2 all day and can't make any progress. I started with flashboot, but that kept getting stuck on waiting for device. Then I tried superoneclick which also got stuck on waiting for device. After messing around with those for awhile and not making any progress I tried using gingerbreak, guided by one of the tutorials on this website, but I keep getting the "not sure what happened here. Either the exploit or reboot failed" message after about 30 seconds. I've done it ALOT of times, and rebooted almost every time. Superuser is nowhere to be found. What's the deal? Did virgin fix the exploits or something?

Do you have USB debugging checked? At every failed attempt (it sometimes takes several attempts) you have to reboot your phone. If after 12 min it doesn't reboot on it's own then pull battery and try again (this is also a reboot). Sometimes if you have a large uSD card (over 4GB) it will get picky. If you have the stock uSD card use it. If you have attempted to run the exploit more than 5 times (not rebooting doesn't count) and have meet all the other criteria, then you might have gotten a corrupt download. It happens sometimes. More often the slower the download speed is. Try downloading a fresh exploit, install the exploit and try from scratch again.

I have the same problem. Device waiting, specifically device hangs here in process.
--> "killing adbd. (should restart in a second or two)" but it never does.
Thanks, Dave

I had this issue rooting a moto defy.
I hit ctrl alt del and terminated a process "adb.exe" or something along those lines, then the process suddenly continued
