try my luck or wait?

Well been reading about the issues with the radio on the evo v. and wondering would it still be worth it getting one and taking a chance on one? I was doing the straight talk BYOD sim but with their secret data limit, and throttling and lying about doing it! im thru with them and trying to find what i can get to replaced my gs2.

Besides the radio interface, anybody else having other issues with their v's?

I love my evo. I rarely get the error and 35 dollars for unlimited data and text with 300 mins that I barely use? Talk about a deal and my speed here is decent

The error really is negligible. It happens so rarely that the restart you will need to do so those text messages will send is more beneficial to your phone than a waste of time.

I agree, I feel the radio issue happens more frequently in different roms, and really only when I'm in low signal areas on the first place. And normally I just wait a few minutes and try to resend and it works fine.

I say go ahead and get the phone. It's an amazing phone overall and hopefully we can get a radio update to fix it soon anyway.

Just be sure to see how Sprint's signal is in your area. Some places it is great, but in some its dismal. Remember that the phone may be a great phone for the price, but that won't mean a thing if you can't get a decent signal to use it. Also, some of the problems you see are directly the result of the phone trying to lock into a good signal (battery drain and heating up are 2 prime examples).
Good Luck.

Yea i had the warp, but got tired of the reboots and the phone just died and wouldnt turn back on at all! so sprint does well in my area! I just hate to drop 300 on a phone with issues that are hindering the joy of use.

Ditto!! Texting and CALLING are two BIG issues. Anyway, where are you located? Just check your map and make sure you have great coverage. Let us know what you do because I'm still deciding too.

Wife and I had radio issues irrespective of ROM (she's stock, I'm not, she's had it more but also uses it in more areas around town).

A phone that can't make/receive phone calls or sms reliably is mostly useless to us. If that is important to you then I'd recommend against this phone entirely as I seriously doubt that a fix is on anyone's agenda (the problem has been on Sprint for over a year).

After doing some research i found that this was a BIG problem with the phone when it was on sprint! And their was NEVER a real fix, just that not that many people experienced it, and now that people are getting it on VM makes me feel like the issue may be address or they may not be address!

I don't get reliable 4g in my area(unless the mall or sprint store) but 3g is around 1mb or more so its doable and never frustrated me to a point to where i would switch. ill give it til friday(when i get paid) and its a VERY LONG SHOT! but if theres not any big progress the issues probably be a getting the design 4g.... Sucks cause i didnt want a single core phone but you need something reliable that makes calls and text without a problem!

If you do decide to get a design check the boost forums at howard forums.there is a thread over there about a code to get 25% off of phones at boost mobile.com.im not sure if the promation is still going on though

I have a feeling I'm gonna be right there with you on that Evo Design as I haven't heard of any issue remotely similar on that phone. If i KNEW that phone could handle intense gaming...I wouldn't even have to think about it any longer.:) P.S.. 903"Tex"...LOL I knew that

HOPEFULLY things go well for you! As of now i think i will pass on this phone! My luck i just end up getting one that has this problem no matter how many times i do exchanges and don't want to go thru the hassle....sad cause i really want the phone!

Looking at the speed on my Lg Esteem on 4g vs this phones 3g I'm getting 3mbs down and up 2mbs on the Esteem and on the EvO V I'm getting 1.5mb down 500kbs up. The speeds are not what I thought they where going to be. I thought Sprints 3g speed was comparable to Metros 4g speed. The rep at bestbuy told me when I bought the EvO today that VM was having problems with the network. Hope they fix it soon cause I will just return the phone on the 29th day if so.

Also see the other new thread I started concerning these issues and spread the word...it contains info I got directly from the HTC escalations department via phone.

I just bought a Nexus. I'm completely done with this VM trash...that's now two "flagship" devices they've released completely broken with no promises they'll ever work properly. I'm not supporting them anymore and IMO, neither should anyone.

Was looking at a Nexus on ST's Byod $45 plan and use a At&t sim cause Tmo is horrible where I live. Seen a pic of like 5mbs down and that looks great. The fact that VM has the insurance option is what drew me to this phone over the Nexus. I will give it 29 days and see how things go. ;)

P.s. Fallowing that thread like a hawk! Thanks. :p

Edit: Come to think of it I remember speeds being pretty good when I had my Moto Triumph.

My gripe about ST is that apparently they don't allow some types of streaming data? They've been known to shut down peoples accounts at will due to excessive data usage in strange patterns, and it's so vague as to what they define as "excessive" so I don't trust them...I used to have ST with a feature phone though and they were totally fine.

I had st att sim and IMHO there not worth anybody time! In their TOS they say you can only use the data for checking email and little web browsing, then they say everything else is to be used of wifi!

On howardforums people say keep it under 100mb daily and under 2gb a month. But now they throttle you if you use over 100mb a day! Then it took me almost a week to get my data speeds back to normal! Had to get on their facebook and complain over and over until they finally said they found the issue! THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU A DATA LIMIT, THEY WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THEY ARE THROTTLING! You do get postpaid coverage on the att sim, which is great with the roaming but after dealing with the issues and the run around and the fact its 50+ after tax for me in my state i don't see the advantage besides being able to use anything other than a android.

Metropcs has 4glte, not as fast as verizon but for what you pay for they are acceptable. Their coverage is NOT! Only reason why i on the fence for considering them. cause in my area small towns dont have coverage BUT all the metro areas in Texas has 4g lte covered!!! which is a nice plus! I guess its back to the drawing board....

Also VM the highest you will see is 3.1mbps same goes for verizon on 3g data side! 4g can get higher but metropcs having the "4glte for all" slogan now if you live in a good/great metro area your speeds should be around 3-7mbps.

Have you considered T-Mobile's Monthly 4G prepaid plans? That's what I'm moving to with an unlocked GNex.

Yes i have the 30 dollar plan! Would be tough on the minutes as i do around 400-500 minutes a month but with groove ip and such may do me good.

Tmobile says they have 42mbps in my area yet, there horrible in buildings and me being in a kinda rural area the service is meh! Don't get me wrong i have consider them for a long time now! But they are the only company in my town that don't have any stores you can only buy them at walmart, and the walmart employee who had they was like "They work" but she didn't want to go into details on how the coverage was......

So now im thinking should i even make the effort but for the price you can't go wrong! I guess for 30 a month i can put up with them until its gets unbearable... I mean where i live i get service in my house and speeds are nice(use to date a girl that had tmobile) But IDK after doing some research its either try my luck with metro or try my luck with the design?

These are the monthly 4G, but I see that they also have these value package deals. Basically the same idea, but, if you need more minutes, there's an option for unlimited talk + text, 2 GB of 4G data ($60- pre tax), or $50 for the same, but 500 minutes. Hmm. I'd maybe look into those.

Personally, I'd go with the Design over Metro.

Yea for the sake of coverage. But the design doesnt have the problem like the evo v has with the radio issue. May be dumb thinking but couldn't we flash their radio since they are running ics and have 4g wimax as well?
