Help turn off texting notification

Hi,
I have an LG Ally, and downloaded Handcent SMS, which I love since I can customize my texting notification to longer vibrations. Now though I receive 2 notifications for each text. I can't figure out how to turn off the texting notification that comes with the phone. Can anyone help?

stock messaging app press menu button choose settings scroll down till you see notifications uncheck the first box you see to disable notifications
